  • Makes My Old PC Faster Than My New One!

I saw this SSD drive for sale complete with a new version of Windows 10 'blown' to it, and as I had an old PC sitting around looking for a new purpose in life (I knew it was W10 compatible already), I bought this drive. It worked straightaway after swapping it out for the old 1 terabyte hard drive, thanks to the pre-installed Windows 10, and only had to get new graphics card drivers to complete the install. There are a few things you need to know if upgrading to a faster SSD . Until someone comes up with affordable LARGE ones, they lack the storage capacity of their predecessors, i.e. hard drives that actually rotate inside! This doesn't give too many problems as Windows fits easily, but you do need to 'house-keep' the drive space a bit more. For example, if given the option, alter the install path of other software e.g. to d:/drive when re-installing it, otherwise, it'll gobble up the remaining space on the 'default c:drive' rather quickly. It goes without saying that if you have lots of music or photos and movies to store, you need a d:/drive too! The MS Office 2016 install disk gives you no such option, so this will by default chew up yet more space. There is apparently a work-round but this involves editing the registry, and therefore not for the faint-hearted. SSD drives are like 2.5 inch laptop drives in proportions so fitting into a normal desktop PC will need a 3.5" 2.5" adapter plate (about £6 on e-bay). If you've been plagued by ever-slower boot-up times, then an SSD might just be the job. if you can find one with Windows already on it, happy days!

Reasonable SSD, which is partially seen as normal Spin HDD.
