  • Okay Coffee Maker but Much More Marketing Hype than Real Hot Good Java

First off, within the past week I have purchased three (3) refurbished Cuisinart coffee makers. One was a 10 cup unit with Thermal carafe DCC-1150 with the other two being these DCC-3200 late edition techno 14-cup light-up push button quasi stainless plastic beasts. Forgetting about all the marketing feature nonsense with these consumer coffee makers as it all comes down to the machine's basic specification wattage which translates to hotter water for decent coffee grind brewing. Back in the old days of the 1980s, we all owned German built KRUPS coffee makers. Those were 1200+ watt machines. The coffee brewed was always very hot and tasted really good. Some time in the 1990s KRUPS moved production to Mexico and the quality collapsed with the machine wattage dropped to weak low levels. Later, KRUPS had their products made in China and the 900-1000 watt range coffee machines appeared. Even after some improvement, KRUPS was not been able to regain dominance in the consumer coffee maker market. We've been buying and using Cuisinart coffee machines for many years now. These later edition Cuisinart DCC-3200 makers have a wattage of around 1050. Coffee devotees have actually measured hot water temperature on these machines and report a brewing temp of around 190-200 degrees Fahrenheit. Experts say that 200 degrees is the proper temperature for decent flavor extraction from the coffee grinds. From a few days experience in using a Cuisinart DCC-3200 machine, I have found that when from 6 to 8 cups are brewed, the flavor and temperature is marginal at best. Noticeably better and hotter coffee comes when just 4 cups is brewed. One of the DCC-3200 makers was sent over to our swanky big city Hudson River apartment as replacement for a cheapo dumpster derived Mr. Coffee maker. Need to figure that the brew quality and flavor will be about the same. Meanwhile the other recently bought Cuisinart DCC-1150 10 cup machine with thermal carafe actually makes better tasting hotter coffee. That one is rated at 1025 watts. Perhaps the coffee brewing mechanism cooks hotter because there is NO pot warmer hot plate to steal electrical current. Also too, there is no hot plate on DCC-1150 maker to change flavor or burn coffee. Your java stays nice and hot inside of the heavy high quality metal thermal carafe. All in all, I'd rate the DCC-3200 as an "okay" coffee machine but not at all does it measure up to the hype. Have yet to get a satisfactory cup of good tasting hot coffee from either of the two we now own. Would I purchase another DCC-3200? Mostly likely - NO!

  • Cuisinart Coffee Maker

Coffee maker's Awesome! We Love the bold brew flavor/taste (w/it's optional button) Easy to setup/Easy to use. Glass Carife pours Perfectly, unlike other makers we've had issue w/.  (Wish it wasn't glass, but it is) We Like the metal filter...do Believe that supports the stronger brew (VERSUS paper filters that critics state steal Flavor- instead of allowing it to flow through). 1 issue we are having, is:  it's Not easy to clean the filter. It's Somewhat Difficult cleaning grounds out of metal filter (VERSUS just throwing filter out). Not sure if there's solution to. (Will own recycle composter in while, so hoping to utilize those grounds towards that) 2ndly: Filter's plastic handle is  really flimsy. Waiting for that to break. However, Overall: BEST Coffee Maker ever purchased! Would buy again. And it's a Definite Keeper.

  • Bring on the java

Purchased a new black one last year and very pleased with performance. Bought this unit for another property and wanted the white color. Perfect! Very pleased and it even arrived sooner than expected.

  • It has some nice options & features

I think it would be more user friendly if the lid would flip up vs snap off.
