Tado thermostat starter kit
Great quality product packed with features some of which are available at an additional monthly fee. The product is a little on the expensive side but it is the only one on the market that suits my boiler. Tado heating control
great bit of kit toyed between this and Hive but Tado has digital radiator valves as well so went with this. Linked up to Amazon Echo as well so voice control which is good. Used it to replace an old Danfoss wireless unit which was difficult to program. This is so easy to program on your smart phone. Good, for the right application.
The wired thermostat Starter kit is the easiest Option of any system to achieve smart control if you have a combi boiler and only want to control heating. I have installed Hive/Nest/Salus systems and all of these require a receiver mounted at the boiler(or manually wired into the boiler)The TADO is very simple to fit where your existing thermostat is and connect the 2 wires (neutral not needed, so the 3rd wire that most old stats have is not needed) At approx £100 for the starter kit (if you shop around) it’s good value and a good solution if you want location control so your heating only comes on when you are home (or near home. As you can set the distance) If you are needing to buy the extension kit because you want to control hot water as well, or dont have wires to the new stat position then I would say it’s more expensive than Hive/Nest/Salus and therefore not worth the extra money. In conclusion, this is the best option if you only want to control heating and you have a wired stat. It’s relatively straight forward to set up but mine was a bit temperamental whilst registering the codes to the TADO web pages. Tado worth a look
I have been looking at smart thermostats for a while but was put off by the price and extra equipment needed to get the thermostats connected to wifi and to the internet. I decided to buy a Tado as the price was good and everything needed was in the box, installation is easy the Tado comes with volt free contacts, converting a conventional mechanical thermostat is straight forward, there are also terminals for a 2 wire bus if your boiler supports this. Once installed the hub and thermostat has to be enabled by Tado then the thermostat is online and can be seen through your smart phone and web browser. There are some good energy saving features such as away from home this tracks your smart phone and lowers your Tado set point the further from home you are, there are also trends that tell you room temperatures and how much you have spent on heating.
