  • Robust, detailed, including a fine smartphone version.

This active version of the map is brilliant. It has a coating that makes it look waterproof. It might not actually be, but it is way more robust than the regular paper version. All the classic OS stuff is still here, and the 1:25,000 scale brings out the detail, making it better for those who wear glasses. The gridlines make it easy to find exact locations, the symbols indicate key features, and the contours show you the steepness of the terrain. Like most great things they're intuitive and simple to use. To get the most out of them use a compass too, but it's not essential. A bonus is that many outdoor apparel manufacturers make pockets in their clothing which will fit these maps, and mine fits perfectly in the side pocket of my Craghopper trousers. And you get a smartphone version for download too. Brilliant! Just download the free app and the file of your map. The app works well and shows your direction, thereby making the argument that using a compass is now possibly redundant, An institution for lovers of the UK countryside.
