Buy branded stuff in order to get driver updates!
My previous card was untraceable in terms of finding updates (and needed one due to security issue), after having it maybe 5 years, bought new one, turned out it used same chip, with no support for updates. Decided to pay extra few bucks, in order to have a BRANDED wi-fi card, and so far so good. Beefy antennas, got full reception, being about 5-7 meters (and two plasterboard walls) away from router.
