Michelangelo Antonioni's drama starring Jack Nicholson and Maria Schneider. While on location working on a documentary about post-colonial Africa, disillusioned journalist David Locke takes on the identity of a deceased man he had previously befriended. When it transpires that the deceased, Robertson, had shady connections in arms dealing, Locke nevertheless decides to maintain the pretence, becoming embroiled in trading with rebels. But Locke's false identity soon leads him in to dangerous territory; on the run from the police and Robertson's suspicious widow. Also starring Steven Berkoff, Ian Hendry and Jenny Runacre. Antonioni's film is typical of the director, being thoughtful, ambiguous and enigmatic, with a dreamlike atmosphere. Featuring some stunning locations - including Barcelona and Seville, Spain, and the Algerian Sahara - the movie also includes a notably impressive seven minute tracking shot toward the film's conclusion.
