Testament of Youth is a powerful story of love, war and remembrance, based on the First World War memoir by Vera Brittain, which has become the classic testimony of that war from a woman's point of view. A searing journey from youthful hopes and dreams to the edge of despair and back again, it's a film about young love, the futility of war and how to make sense of the darkest times.
Made by a small British film company, this should be considered a major film with excellent acting by everyone. The story regard the heartfelt experiences of young men fighting in a World War and the girl who fell in love with one young soldier. She became a nurse and medically treated allied soldiers as well as enemy soldiers, prompting her to forever be against war of any kind.
I had concerns before I bought the movie that it would be just another boy meets girl story. I was wrong. Alicia Vikander may have done her best acting in this movie. She did not smoke cigarettes as in previous works. She kept her clothes on as well. The other in the film were mostly supporting actors for Alicia. The script was well written, the scenes were believable, the acting was excellent. I hope Alicia sticks to this format in future films. Showing her unclothed body and smoking cigarettes to boost the tobacco industry does not suit her. Buy it.
