21st Century Garage Door Control with MyQ

great item if you need to remote monitor and controls garage door openers over your cell phone or computer with cell phone app software. Installation is straight forward after you download the MyQ App to your cell phone. With the sensor included you can use this with non-MyQ equipped openers. I only wanted the ability to monitor the doors and ensure that they were shut at night. But you can monitor and controls them from anywhere your cell phone operates. You can also assign others the ability to open /close the doors.

Installation Nightmare - MyQ may not be ready for Prime Time

The concept of being able to RELIABLY control a garage bay door remotely can be nice, especially when one is not at home and wants to let someone in, or if they leave home for a stroll with their iPhone. _______ SIDE NOTE: Before buying MyQ I knew most household LED LIGHT BULBS CAN INTERFERE WITH THE RF SIGNALS OF GARAGE DOOR OPENER MOTOR SYSTEMS. The operating distances of my vehicle garage door controls, and keypads too, quite limited after I replaced standard incandescent with LED bulbs. It was only after I changed to GE brand 'Garage Door Opener' 100W equivalent bulbs that all my remotes resumed working at previous normal distances and lighting was bright enough to be useful. ______ Back to MyQ, being a bit of a techno geek I wanted a new toy to check out, thinking by Sept 2020 the MyQ system had developed to be reliable. But is this a good idea for most of us overall? Ends up I was well off taking a small pocketable keypad and using the remote control built into my cars. This MyQ set was not worth the hassles, and end result for me. My home has two garage bays. Initially I installed the Chamberlain MyQ Hub with one garage door sensor, so I had control of the right bay door. Later I added a second garage door sensor, then programmed the left door sensor. Both seemed to work OK. There were some hiccups with the Chamberlain MyQ Hub alone: • At times the MyQ Hub gets confused and the MyQ App asks me to 'VERIFY DOOR POSITION', let it know if the door is really open or closed. So this is not yet 'bullet-proof' - though at least it asks. • There is some latency that is more annoying when closing a bay door. It can take longer than I'd like for the MyQ App to register 'Closed', this is not the end of the world. • Note the MyQ requires that each garage bay door have a MyQ sensor attached, this gives the Hub door position feedback. The sensor incorporates a long life Lithium button battery. The real troubles began after I purchased the Chamberlain MyQ Bridge: • Somehow during programming the Hub became confused resulting in control of the left door working OK HOWEVER, the garage door opener in my Ford vehicle occasionally activated BOTH GARAGE DOORS when I push to open or close the right door. • I called Chamberlain Customer Service, they are better than most but working within the limits of what MyQ can do. This became an installation nightmare: the process tied me up way too long, to get this to at least 'reasonably well working' required nearly a 3-hour consult one the phone with Chamberlain Customer Care, at least they were there to help. • Chamberlain Customer Support concluded we had to reset ALL components; THERE IS NO WAY TO FULLY 'WIPE/RESET' the HUB! Their solution requires having to WIPE BOTH GARAGE DOOR OPENER memories, I had to reprogram ALL MY GARAGE DOOR OPENERS: hand held, keypad, and IN VEHICLES TOO. • During the set up process the iPhone Hub App LOCKED UP within a section about installing a garage door sensor - no menu item is on that screen to return back to the App 'Home' menu! If I had not had Chamberlain Customer Care on the phone then I would now have known there is a back way to get into the Hub via a Browser. I still cannot say what the Bridge does exactly, though it seems to work though my iPhone 'Home' App I do not yet seem to be able to control the Garage Doors through my Apple OS X 'Home' Application. I do not have enough other automation gadgets to be able to fully see how one can program this to cause that to happen. Furthermore, I wonder if the RF put out by all my gadgets (Philips Hue Lights, Arlo cameras, MyQ Hub & Bridge, home Router and other gadgets) may interfere with each other. This was put in some couple of weeks ago, and to this day the garage door opener of my Ford vehicle occasionally opens BOTH DOORS when I push to open the right door. Makes me wish I had skipped MyQ.

  • MYQ Smart opener features

Easy to install ! Alerts you if the door is open great feature for when you are out of town. You can open and close the door from anywhere with your smart phone; another feature you can use for package deliveries.

  • Works good on Chamberlain unit

Was easy to pair with my Chamberlain unit. Works great can open anywhere you have internet. Though a coworker bought one for his genie and would open with app but could only monitor if the garage was open or closed.

  • Easy to Install & Give Me Peace of Mind

My garage door was open (either I left it open or someone was able to open it) recently and some things were stolen from my car. I decided it was time to seriously look into a way to monitor my garage door and found MyQ. After doing some research and talking to people who have MyQ already, I went ahead and bought one. I got a good price on EBay. I had watched the YouTube videos on how to install the MyQ before I bought it and realized I could install it myself. Mind you, I am not much of a do-it-yourselfer, but I AM frugal! I was able to install the MyQ within 30 minutes on my own. It has been working great. I suggest following the videos that Chamberlain has put on YouTube -- they have you test out the hub before drilling holes and going to all that trouble to make sure it works in your garage. I am totally happy with the seller that I bought it from and the product itself. I've been using it for a month or so and it works very well.

  • Works good

I was a bit weary when I ordered this, but it did get good reviews. It is as easy to set up as advertised. I was concerned that it wouldn't work with my older opener, but it worked like a charm. We love that we can check that the garage is closed. There always seemed to be the question "did you close the garage?" I subtracted 1 star for the google assistant integration, which is clunky at best. It only allows closing (not opening) and checking the status. Seems like half the job...all of an extra $10/yr. There was no alexa (nor I suppose siri) integration available. From a security perspective, I might be able to understand why they don't have voice activation to open, but still feel like it limits this cabibility

  • Easy to install and setup

Very easy to install and setup. I kept leaving the door open all night. Now I have the door scheduled to close every night at 10:00 pm. Has a great warning audible and flashing light to alert anyone in the area that the door is closing. Reason for only 4 stars: Great that you can pair a second door sensor to operate a second door. But I wish they could provide a second sensor for a reasonable price or sell a kit that has two sensors.

  • The Best Smart Home Product.

The MyQ garage door opener is by far the best smart home product on the market. It is very easy to install. I'm don't consider myself handy and it only took me 10 minutes to install. This unit is awesome because you can control your garage door from any location. Simply use your smartphone to control your garage door! What's more? You can even set alerts to notify you of unwanted activity. No more worrying about if you left the garage door open, or if someone is attempting to break into your garage. I give this product "two thumbs up!"
