The Sound + Sleep SE is everything that was advertised. I suffer from PTSD and have a difficult time getting to sleep and the story is, "if an ant crawls across the floor, I hear it". I wake to any little noise. I have to cover all appliance lights and make sure I am in pitch black out conditions. Yes, even light wakes ! And to top off my 'afflictions', I suffer from extreme tinnitus that is louder than all other noises that occur around me, including my husband's wood working tools! This nifty sound machine is the bomb! With all the choices of sound, I am sure there will be plenty of variety. Currently I am stuck on 'Brown Noise'. Ive checked out MANY of the environmental sound systems on the market, and not only is this one the best sounding (since it uses real recordings of the environments) but it is also backed by a terrific company. You never really know a product until you have a problem with it and have to deal with the company... I had one of these for years and it failed. Not wanting to be without it, I contacted the company and they dealt with the problem immediately and fairly, and turned me into a customer FOR LIFE. Made a huge difference in our sleep
After years of wanting one of these I finally got one. It has made such a difference in our sleep. I tend to stay up reading while my husband sleeps. With the adaptive sound on, if I make a noise, it gets louder and he doesn't wake up. I find I sleep more soundly with it on. Our favorite sounds are the water ones, rain, ocean, meadow. Bottom line is this thing helps me to sleep. Problem with these machines is that they use an SD Card that wears out and starts creating glitching noises just past a year of use. When I got this one, I backed up the SD Card immediately because the last machine I had crashed out so badly I couldn't even read the SD Card on my PC. BEST SLEEP MACHINE??????
I purchased my first Adaptive Sound Ecotones (black one) because it was so highly rated, but within 2 weeks it malfunctioned, and I was not able to turn on the unit, in fact, I saw a spark at the "on" button. I returned that one. I purchased the 2nd Adaptive Sound SE Ecotones (white one) because it had a few more sleep noise choices. However, within 2 weeks, the volume malfunctioned, and I could not adjust the volume. This also was returned. Finally, the 3rd purchase was the charm, and I love this item. -- that is after about 2 months, the volume button malfunctioned. Very unfortunate. Another problem is the cord. The power cord is not attached to the back, but on the bottom, which means the units rests on it's own power cord, and if it ever overheats, well -- that could be a serious problem. One that I hope the manufacturer will remedy. The sound is superb, but this unit is not durable, and for the above reasons I cannot recommend it. There are 2 models, the black, and the white. This review applies to both.

Small footprint, big on features
I've only owned the device for a week but it is working perfectly and delivering the Pink Noise wall of sound I require for sleep. The AST S+S SE has all the features I was looking for from this appliance. It took me about 2 minutes to set it up. The ability to deep dwell each setting many fold is a bonus. Haven't used the USB charge ports but would be great to reduce the clutter of charging adapters for other devices. Especially if you want to input your own source as an audio input is available. Volume is suffice for my noisy apartment and even has an output to hook up to other speakers if required. How would I improve the next generation? A remote control. Item is fair to poor quality. States in description 2 USB ports; both ports are loose/defective, and USB cord won't stay plugged in, they simply fall out of the ports.
