Good product. Required modification to fit my bike

Got this to fit my full suspension mtb and take my 3year old round some single-track trails... She loves it Took me some time to fit it in a good position, comfortable seating for her and no feet touching the front tyre.. Made an extra spacer from wood in the end. Would be better if it came with a range of spacers and pads, so you could tailor it to suit any bike.

  • Most critical review

Ok item but expensive and foot straps are poorly designed.

The concept is great. It allows me to have my 4 year old at the front of the bike (a good place for her weight to be too, she feels safe and loves being there) and my 1 year old in a seat behind. The installation is fiddly, it is much easier with two people doing it and required some strength and patience. My real issue are the foot straps which are barely long enough for my just turned 4 year old to squeeze a trainer wearing foot into. The foot straps are important to stop their feet going too close to the front wheel but the straps are useless. They need to be double the length to fit a foot in comfortably (especially if they're wearing wellies or winter boots) and ideally the strap needs to be adjustable to grow as the child does. It's a real let down and would be a simple fix (we made an extended strap using cable ties). It's an otherwise safe and fun ride for my 4 year old daughter, I'll be intrigued to see if I can still ride with her in front when she is 6 however.

  • Quality child seat at good price point

Once fitted it seems a good product, but fitting was a complete palaver. The designers had clearly though about making an affordable end product and forgot about how to practically put it together. Still early days in my use, so will be carrying a few extra tools around with me in case there are shake down issues. A friend of mine purchased a similar product which was four times more expensive, but beautifully engineered and considered. Even with its faults, I believe this offers far better value for money. The kids love it, which is the main thing! Review edit - I've since bought myself a more expensive and much better made version of this seat. The "little explorer" one wiggled around a lot on one bike I fitted it to and I managed to loose the rubber wedge which fits between the seat and bike. Sadly on contacting the original manufacturers they don't stock spare parts. So I now have a useless seat. I wish I'd purchased the more expensive one in the first place.

  • Tricky to fit but good in use

The seat was really tricky to fit - parts had to be undone that came bolted together, in order to fit it properly. It took us at least two hours! However, it seems to be good quality and hasn't slipped in use or come undone. I think there are just a couple of changes needed to the manufacturing process to allow it to fit as per the instructions. My daughter loves it and although she's a heavy, tall nearly 3 year old she fits well on it and I am able to cycle with her without any problems (even though I'm not the most confident of cyclists). We ordered it to go on my husband's bike but he is 6ft 5 and has a very big bike and the distance between the cross bar and lower bar were too big for the seat to fit. It fits OK on my bike, despite me having a sloped cross bar. The supplier sent it out quickly and it was well packaged.

  • Great little seat for cuddly rides.

This is a great little seat that is a great follow on from the rear mounted option for smaller kids. Pros. Much easier to chat and talk about road safety. They feel nice and close and it’s much less rattly when not in use than rear mounted seats Cons. This will, pretty much whatever you do, scratch your bike in some way. It also gets in the way a little when they are not on the bike. I find the inside of my knee can knock it. But I’m 5’3’ and have a small framed bike.

  • Buy nice not twice

This is a great idea executed poorly. The set up of this product is very frustrating, fiddly and easy to get wrong. The seat is not designed to be installed and taken off multiple times, it will simply disintegrate. The straps have failed and Oxford Cycles are simply not interested, if you want good quality save up some more money and buy the shotgun seat.

  • A good toddler bike seat..

This is a great little bike seat for a toddler. Our 3 year old loves it as he's at the front and can ring the bell. He's good on his balance bike so took to it very well as he has to use his core and can balance well. We've stuck to fairly short rides so far as he needs to be awake and alert as he isn't strapped in. It's ok to fit to an adult bike although it does need the cable ties to get it really tight and secure.

  • Tricky to fix but great once on

Absolutely loving having this on my bike. It means I can have one twin on the front and one twin on the back of the bike. I must admit it I found it very fiddly to attach but now it's on we are loving it.

  • Great front mounter seat for a preschooler

    - The seat is well made, looks like it will last. - It's easy to fit apart from the 2 side screws at the top / under the edges of the seat. (In the end I bent the seat edges outward a bit, by inserting a large spanner between the edges and the central metal part of the seat, and leaving the spanner there, while screwing these 2 screws into place.) - My bike is a hybrid bike with quite a wide bottom tube. The seat just fitted length/height-wise - I mean the lengths of the long side bits. I also was not able to place the rubbery inserts in between the horizontal tube and the seat for two reasons: a) the sides were not long length; b) my brake cables go along the top of the top tube, so I cannot place anything on top. - My tall 3,5 year old daughter (110 cm tall and 22 kg in weight) loves it! We use it for the nursery run now and for cycling out and about.

  • Not quite what I expected but my 2 year old loves it!

I had an earlier version of this product 30 years ago which came in 2 parts, the footrest and the saddle. Much more versatile! This one piece kit is fiddly to put together, and my heart sank when I saw the 2 zip ties to hold it onto the bike. One of the end bolts also ripped when I first tightened it and the saddle is really the size for an adult. That said, it works - I have used it twice - and my 2 year old son loves it!
