The best alternative
I fitted a DAB head unit in my Saab 9-3 , the unit came with the standard " stick on " DAB aerial, as normal reception was hit and miss , so I purchased another which was amplified , but the reception was worse , So in search of a solution, I stumbled upon this , seeing as the Saab comes with a " shark fin aerial " as standard , this would make replacement easy , And it did , just unbolted the original , and popped in the new one , I ran a bead of silicon around the base for good measure ( though this comes with rubber O rings , I removed them and the plastic fitting on the base , and it just slotted straight in . And bolted it down ! There's 5 meters of co-Ax and DAB lead , but power lead was just 2 meters long , but I just extended that so power was picked up from the head unit . Wires were run in head lining and down to head unit , took about 3 hours , all told , , minimal tools required , and the reception on both DAB and FM are a 100 % improved , I was sceptical at buying it But wonderfully surprised at the results . In short the best alternative, to any DAB aerial upgrade .

Works well but not a simple installation job.
This antenna system worked well and definitely improved VHF reception on my car radio. Having said that, the installation process was far from easy requiring the drilling and filing of roof metalwork to allow the antenna base to sit correctly. I recommend the use of a 14mm drill bit, a good marker pen and a flat file to give the necessary rectangular hole for the antenna base to sit with the o-ring sealing effectively against the roof paintwork. I expect rectangular hole-cutters of the appropriate dimensions are available but I would be concerned that those are a one-shot deal and if you get the alignment wrong, the antenna will be on the wonk. Shouldn't affect performance but it'll look odd. Careful measuring, marking and patient filing did the trick for me. Bottom line: Worth it in the end but good luck.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Massive Improvement
Bought this to replace a failing fm aerial as well as with the hope of getting better dab reception than the standard window sticker thing my headunit was supplied with. Glad to say it has made a huge difference. Installation is straight forward if you know a bit about car electronics. The power lead is short but its probably designed to pickup 12v from somewhere near the mounting point. I ended up extending it to the back of the headunit, just have to find a switched 12v. I ran the 3 cables together next to eachother and was concerned about inteference but im pleased to say there wasnt any issues. Great little upgrade.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Easy to fit, works OK but not great. Whip is quite small, perfect for DAB, but poor on FM / AM. I fitted a longer whip and greatly improved reception on FM / AM to the detriment of DAB. I think two Aerials is the way to go, if you want good reception.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New
