    Wolverine MovieMaker Pro

So easy to use, and awesome picture. I found it was easier to trim off the sides on the PC after the mp4 was made instead of in the settings of the device.

  • Most critical review

Great little machine, good resolution but way too much compression.

I'm very happy that a product of this kind exists. All those old family movies were destined to get lost in time. But with the Wolverine film scanner, now, everybody can enjoy these time capsules right there on the TV. My only gripe with this is the compression. The resolution is good, it's 1080p, but the compression could've been a lot better. There are a lot of compression artefacts in the image where there are sharp contrasts. So I wish the scanning software was better on this machine, with more variable settings. But that really is my only gripe. The colors are very accurate, and it is a joy to watch the old films on a 60" TV afterwards (or even better, on a projector to get the full effect!)

  • Worthy. Operator/Post-Processor MUST be knowledgeable!

The machine operation is quite straightforward and the resulting videos are good. I have transferred >100 reels, mostly 50ft, thus got to know the machine quite well. Pros: Accurate manual frame adjustment w/ zoom. Easy reel loading. Good picture quality. Reasonable scanning speed. Cons: Slow reverse. Noisy transfers. Bell & Howell Autoload Reels do not fit reversing unless the autoload loop is removed. The connection of the leading white film always stucks before reaching the scanning surface, so it needs manual aid. Saves only to SD up to 32GB, however, the size is not the issue, but the fact that one must move the file to the PC after each reel, otherwise, it's difficult to match the clips with the correct reels (USB reader to PC didn't work for me, maybe due to misknowledge.) IMO, the main disadvantage is the fixed frame rate. It builds up the video files only by 20FPS. Altogether, it's a good machine, with plenty of issues to be fixed/modified. Tips: To change your clips to 18FPS, use YAMB for Windows. Screenshots attached. To enhance the films, I have used Premiere Pro with filters as shown in the attached screenshot.

I have only made a short test work. Looks very good and hopefully, when i get around todo more it wwill do the same. One negative point. It says max. 9 1/4 " reel but -there are no such reels available - I have ben trying for days but to no sucess.

  • Great tech, bad mech.

Great tech but the mech side is poor. Rewinding is slow and not at all at the end side for 7" and 9". Can't set and leave as it jams and eats your tape spline. Would like to see improved spline wheel to avoid this and adjust tape pressure feed. Tech/electronic side was great for the little bit I did get when it wasn't jamming.

  • Unit worked well, with exceptions.

Unit worked well. I converted 50 50 foot spools of Super8 film. I also converted 10 50 foot and 3 200 foot spools of Regular8 film. The unit would jam and stop on most splices and other imperfections in the films. However, if you open the cover over the film feed sprocket and pull the bad section past the sprocket , close the cover it will continue working ok. Of course this means that you have to keep an eye on the unit while it’s working. All in all I’m happy with the unit and the mp4 files it created are excellent.

  • Inexpensive, easy to use, good quality

Easy to use ... quality seems good, but these are old films ... 40-50 years old.

  • Wolverine 1080 super 8 film converter works great.

great product. I have about 45 super8 films from the 60's and 70's. I'm very pleased with the job the Volverine 8mm converter does. it takes 30 to 45 minutes to convert a 50' reel, but it's pretty much thread the film and go. If you have spliced films, you'll probably have to keep watch on it, but with most films it will compete on it's own.
