This is a powerful mini-tablet. Way better than any iPad out there. But it does have some flaws
So, I bought this post-recall NVidia Shield 16GB a while back, and have played around with it for some time now. First, let's start with the good: This thing is a beast, if you invest a little more into the tablet! The processor used is still pretty fast, and games zip on it. I tend to use mine with a Bellkin Mobile Wireless Keyboard (which also is pretty awesome), and it works pretty good as a mock Android laptop. The NVidia Grid is a nice streaming service that allows for PC gaming on stream, and the Twitch stream ability is a nice gimmick. Not everyone will care for that feature, but those who do like Twitching will find it to be a welcome addition.
Now, for some of the bad parts: 16GB for internal storage? You've got to be kidding me, NVidia. Don't skimp there next time. Yes, I know, I can add a 128GB card to the tablet (and I have), but not everyone has that luxury. Definitely upgrade to the latest Android to enable syncing the Micro SD card to your internal memory. Bear in mind that your SD can't be used for anything else once you do, however.
Another thing to nitpick? You'll definitely want to put a screen protector on immediately, as my screen now has a very feint chip on it. Hardly noticeable, but enough to annoy owners like me, who like to keep their gadgets in near-mint condition. Also? Like other NVidia Tablets, my tablet developed a hairline crack on a corner, without having been dropped. Not even once! So, there are some quality control issues that NVidia needs to address.
Which reminds me, NVidia? I love your tablet. I don't, however, love your customer service, nor your policies, involving eBay sales of NEW TABLETS AND CONTROLLERS. Keep that up, and I'll just buy from someone else.
Technically, this review, with all things considered, should be 3 1/2 stars. The hardware is nice, and what it can do is amazing, but some quality control issues and terrible customer service and policies brought down the score considerably. Otherwise, I would have given 5 stars. If you don't mind those problems though? Pick up an NVidia Shield and see for yourself, why this mini-tablet could be a winner for you.
