One of the 2014 books that I did read stands above all the others: Station Eleven, by Emily St. John Mandel . . . beautifully written, and wonderfully elegiac, a book that I will long remember, and return to.' Station Eleven

A fantastic read, it scored very high at my wifes monthly book club

  • Most critical review

    Weird in a disappointing way

A really intriguing premise, I love post apocalyptic dystopian worlds! The book had potential but found itself going down wormholes of zero interest - such as the authors clearly self portrait of a struggling comic book artist/non-author was just plain weird. If only there had been more character interaction and storytelling this book could have been a great. Didn’t live up to the hype or expectation for me, and was a struggle to finish

  • Disappointed

Disjointed and a poor read. Author is too intent on showing her Canadian credentials - too many references - than the story.

  • An exciting, compelling read with a complex structure

I love this novel and bought a copy for my mum to keep her entertained during the current pandemic. The book switches between differnent characters and settings but the threads all interlink in an intriguing way and I found ito be a real page-turner.

  • Overhyped by the critics

The book does not live up to the hype it generated by the critics. It is a middling read with long passages of filler which are NOT relevant to the plot (if you can call it a plot). I would recommend you buy this in a charity shop for a couple of pounds. Do NOT buy it at full price.
