Treat yourself to a nice easy to use, fun machine!
I love my Janome JW8100! My trusty mechanical machine that I had had for 40 years died 2 years ago. After grieving for awhile, I decided to treat myself to an expensive well known brand machine (also mechanical because I didn't think I was ready for a computerized machine). Well after a little over a year that machine is not holding up to regular sewing, quilting and crafts. Since I can't afford another expensive machine/mistake I researched some less expensive machines. The JW8100 had all of the features I wanted plus it was computerized which I have decided is pretty cool. The features I especially like are the needle stopping in the down position, the 7 different automatic buttonhole options, in the straight stitch mode the needle can be set anywhere from the far left to the far right, the pressure foot can be raised quite high for thick fabrics, it is light weight so taking it to class is a breeze and it is quiet! It came with a walking foot, extension table and cover all of which I had to pay extra for on my other machine. The manual is quite thorough and easy to understand. I haven't had enough time to try all the features but what I have used I really like. So far there are only two things that I don't like on this machine. One is that the light is not very bright but I have a lamp next to the machine so no big deal. And the other is that the attachment storage bin is useless. I bought a little storage box for a couple of dollars that works just fine. Overall I think this machine is a great value. It is easy enough for a beginner to use but has a lot of nice features for an experienced seamstress to enjoy too.
