Generally Netgear Nighthawks,AC protocol, are top of the heap as an upgrade from "N" protocol type routers. Worked as we hoped it would.
I needed a router that broadcast to the back of our house. It increased my Roku speed from 18 Mbps to 52 Mbps. This makes a world of difference in my Spectrum Roku app. Before it would have trouble 100% of the time recording and watching the same show. Best one yet for a large house
Put this into action in our 1906 plaster walled, lead painted, 3 story home and I can now stream video from anywhere in the house, even the detached garage. It is light years ahead of the rented wifi router that Time Warner Cable was supplying and the configuration interface is really simple to use. Air print works well on the network and the feature that allows you to plug in a portable hard drive to act as a network drive is really useful. Setup & Installation ease?
It was easy to setup. My only recommendation for those replacing an older router is to check every wireless devices after installation. I have a wireless printer and used the same network name and password in an attempt to minimize setup work for family members from re-entering or login info to my network. Going to a dual band router requires each device to select the band, 2.4 or 5 hz. I like to separate my devices based on its requiring performance on the 5hz band and for mobile and slower devices on 2.4 hz. I have several devices connected to switches with wired Ethernet. Fast with great connectivity
Replaced my old Netgear router (5 years old). Nighthawk X4 is fast and we get no more lagging with TV and computer downloading and handles all our other devices (phones/tablets). Works great, very pleased with performance. The only cons is that my wife does not like the 4 antenna look and the lights on top of the device are so bright, I could use them as a air strip for landing planes.
