DuroMax DS4850EH Propane/Gasoline Generator

About this product

Product Information

The DuroMax XP4850EH Generator is powered by the DuroMax 7 HP engine. The engine can accept high wattage loads, and can operate on propane or gasoline. With a flick of a switch, you can easily change your input source from gasoline to propane. This user-friendly generator can also be started with a recoil start, in case of a battery drain-out. When the oil level reduces drastically, the engine automatically shuts down, thus reducing the damage caused. The muffler reduces engine noise, which makes the generator suitable for use in silent zones.

    Great little Generator

Lots of power in a small light package. Assembly took about 30 minutes and she fired up on propane without issue. The battery was fully charged and everything worked as described. As noted by a few other reviewers my unit had a bent wheel but no other damage. The unit was well packaged. I ran the unit for several hours on propane with varying loads up to 2000 watts. I then switched to gas and once again she fired right up and ran for two more hours under varying loads up to 2000 watts. The voltage remained rock solid during the four hours of break in running. Based on the loads I ran I will limit the total demand on the generator to 3000 watts maximum, which would keep my home warm and well-lit in an emergency. This is not a heavy duty thousand dollar generator, but I believe it will get the job done. In conclusion, I found the generator to be a good value and I would buy another.

  • Most critical review

Great unit for the price but disappointing in the surge wattage area.

I've purchased and tested the units ( 2) I am a master electrician and motor repairman. My evaluation is that the generator for the price point is a good value. All ratings and capacitys are within the stated specifications. There is one major negative in the unit that can easily be misinterpreted by a consumer. The Main breaker " 15 amperes-240volt-2 pole", is way to proned to "surge current" tripping. A main breaker protecting said equipment should a have a stronger inverse time value when a max ampere demand is applied. Similar units by other competitors using a different brand or style of overcurrent protection are shown to be more reliable.

  • Runs good and works fine

My 4850 arrived arrived in seemingly good condition, but when I went to pull the recoil, the engine wouldn't turn over because there was a dent in bottom of the recoil cover which prevented the recoil from making a full revolution. With no scratches or marks, I'm sure the kink happened in shipping while inside the box. I was just happy it was that and not a cylinder problem. I removed the recoil, turned the motor over by hand and then started the motor with electric start. By straightening the cover I repaired two problems with one fix, because the electric start was not able to turn the engine over either. It started right up, had a little piston clatter for a few seconds and then sounded good. I plugged in a shop vac and the governor kicked in a little and it powered the vac just fine. The engine seems to flutter a little bit when running without a load on it, but sounds fine when there is a load on it. I only plan to run it on propane, to keep the carb from gumming up while sitting extended intervals.

  • Good product

Love Love the features of the generator. Went together easily and started right up. Could not find manual and called the company. They were closed on the weekend. Then I found the manuel it was between the gas tank and engine when I started it up. Needless to say it was touching exhaust and caught fire. Should have been in a more visible place. Sent request for new one never heard back. Other than that 5 stars

  • XP4850EH by Duromax

Just received generator yesterday with a beat up box but nothing missing and no damage. Installed wheel kit easily, removed shipping braces, hooked up battery, filled with oil, hooked up propane and it fired right up on battery power(20 seconds). It is quieter than expected. Used with yard blower with no problems. Much better storing propane for emergencies and having the gas option. With proper care, this should last many years.

  • Emergency use generator

I live in central California and only few miles from a major fault. I wanted a generator we could use in case a major interruption of electrical service due to an earthquake. I wanted a generator that was not too expensive but a known brand. A generator that could supply the emergency power I needed and would run on dual fuel, avoiding the problem of old gas and the storage of a volatile gas cans. This generation was exactly what i wanted.

  • Good value, READ MANUAL before assembly or as assembling.

Arrived quickly. Was not easy to assemble and get running for first time. DO NOT try to quick start the machine. READ the manual for every step you are taking. The manual is out of order, assembly is not first, do not follow the manual for the next steps, look them up. Immediately turn it over upside down and remove the brace and put wheels and front end rests on. Check manual for oil type for your area and weather. Over 84 degrees takes SAE 30 wt. only. Move choke around if it doesn't immediately start in the position you are told in manual to put it.

  • Great Generator - Great Price !

I love everything about this generator. I spent a long time exploring possibilities and I definitely made the right choice. I wanted a unit that I could run on propane that also offered 12v, 120v, and 240v outlets. It arrived a week sooner than I expected. Very well packed , no damage. It was actually fun to put together. Very impressive manual is included, along with tools you might need, as well as a handy long- tubed funnel for filling the oil. Folding handles and large wheels made it easy to move to final location even through 6" of snow. I connected it to propane tank and it would not start until I tried moving choke lever to halfway point and then the generator started instantly and ran smooth after moving choke to full on. Now I always start it that way. I checked the output voltages and they are all right on. Great generator -great price! Tom

  • Excellent value

First of all, I have only ran this unit on propane, and for only 1 hour tops in the 3 weeks that I've owned it. The only issue is that the engine has this slight cut out or miss. I have not tried to run it on gasoline yet because my primary intended fuel source would be propane, but I do plan to run it on gasoline in order to determine if the miss is only a propane fuel issue, or a carburetor issue in general. Either way I am sure the warranty will take care of any adjustments the engine will need to correct this. I will update later after I can do a more thorough evaluation with gasoline.

  • Nice generator, great value for the price

What I Like: 1) Duel fuel: propane or gasoline. 2) Electric start, fired up the first time on both fuels. 3) Small and light enough that my wife can move it around...AND start it. 4) Has 12v charging plugs and comes with a cable with alligator clips to charge 12v batteries. 5) comes with tools to remove the shipping braces and put the wheels on, and also a spark plug wrench. 6) Handles fold down - makes more room in my shed. What I don't like: 1) The oil fill cap is inconveniently located, and requires a funnel and hose (included) to fill. 2) The propane hose (plastic outer layer) comes attached to to the regulator with a standard brass gas fitting, with the hose coiled up in the regulator...right next to the exhaust muffler which gets hot. Need to be careful it is not too close. I think I will put a quick-connect fitting there so the hose can be easily removed when not in use. 3) The re are two cross braces on the bottom. One comes with a shipping brace, the other does not. the one that did not have the shipping brace was slightly bent on arrival. Should either be made of heavier material, or have a shipping brace on both bottom cross members. NOTE: The instructions say to close the gasoline valve when switching to propane. That is fine, but if there is still gas in the carburetor it wont run on propane - toe mix is way too rich to run. When switching from gas to propane if it did NOT run dry, start it on gas, close the gas valve and let the motor use up the gasoline in the carburetor and die, THEN start it on propane. Overall - a great little generator at a great price.
