Great suction - floor tool lets it down
This Dyson is excellent in terms of suction which is very powerful. The major design fault for me is the floor tool. Dyson have done away with the brush that went round the floor tool and replaced it with a useless piece of rubber. You can still toggle the floor tool to 'flatten out' for carpet and rugs or have it 'unflattened' so you can do hard floors. In the 'unflattened' mode is where I had problems as the rubber piece is then in contact with floor, and rather than it being a brush, it just snags along the floor and scrapes. My previous Dyson was the DC5 and the floor tool on this had the retractable brush all the way round so I now have to use a piece of rubber.
The wand now has a suction release trigger which is ideal when you want to do curtains but the hand held part is overly large and clunky as is the main extendable pipe. The long narrow pipe attachment for going under things is too thick and wide and compared to the old tool I had for the DC5 and is mainly too big for getting in small places. On the plus side, the small brush tool is excellent as it has long soft bristles and combined with the powerful suction can easily get into small places effectively and is far better than my round one for the DC5.
I was disappointed with this Dyson and actually arranged to send it back. Something did stop me however, after I gave it another more extensive trial and I have decided I like it enough to keep even though I still hate the floor tool. Having looked at other Dysons, and spoken to Dyson it would seem the floor tools are all similar in terms of the hated rubber bit. You also cannot interchange the tools with different models which would have been a great plus point for the customer although of course not a great marketing ploy for Dyson.
