    Good Butter - Hard Labour

It's hard work, but worth the effort and it's easier with practice. However you can get the same result with an electric hand mixer and I would guess also a stand mixer. I like the idea of hand churning however but being somewhat arthritic, I must admit I have resorted to the electric mixer. But, the butter is fabulous and I highly recommend you try making your own. It takes me about 20 minutes to get my utensils out, churn the butter, clear up and there you are. PLUS you get a small jug of buttermilk as well, which is truly delicious (I make my porridge with it). You can use double cream as well as whipping cream and I find double cream cheaper. For extra creaminess you can have a carton of whipping cream and a small carton of extra thick Devon cream or whatever your shop sells. This makes the butter really rich. The beauty of making your own butter is that you can add as much or as little salt as you please. I find about 5 to 6 grinds of my little salt mill is about right. It mixes in really easy and tastes divine. Happy churning, however you make it.

    Kilner butter churner

I have always wanted to make my own butter and saw the Kiln butter churner for sale new on ebay at, £17.99,so purchased it on following the instructions I made my first pat of butter, however on making the second, the paddle never moved, I am so disappointed in this, brand new and useless, I think it is a design fault, so advise anyone thinking of buying this to think before buying.

  • Great Fun

It had never occurred to me to try to make butter. With this device it is fun, and whilst the butter may not be any cheaper than the standard product, it is very good butter and as I say, fun to do. Recommended. I have now purchased a pair of Kilbers butter pats so I hope for an even more professional result next time.

  • Not fit for purpose

This churn is not made to deal with the rigour of butter making. The mechanism is not robust and will wear out quickly and how the paddle is attached to the drive shaft means that it will not turn in the cream once it has thickened. I was very disappointed.

  • Even better than expected.

I expected this to be good, certainly better than my old method of shaking milk in a jam jar. It's much better than I thought it would be, fast, effective and exceptionally easy to clean. It can turn a pot of double cream into good quality butter in 15 minutes or less. It is easy to work and not too tiring. Since getting it, I am now making all my own butter from organic double cream with a pinch of sea salt.

  • Kilner butter churner

Clever product, but ill thought out. Poor design! The glass jar has the mechanism pushed on, not secured or screwed on! If you pick up the churner the glass jar falls off and smashes. No spares available, you have to buy a complete new churn? The mechanism is not very robust and soon wears out. Shame, I am suprised at Kilner, who have such a good reputation.

  • Fresh butter the way you want it

Less than 10 minutes and you have fresh butter add a little salt or not but ether way tastes fantastic! I used to make my butter in an electric mixer far too messy. This kilner butter churner clean and fast!

  • Fabulous tasty butter made at home.

I've been meaning to make butter in ages. This is by far the best method for achieving a really quick and tasty result. The butter I've made has been really tasty and I've enjoyed the process. I have made herb butter and garlic butter and all have had rave reviews from family and friends alike. Very happy.
