  • Most favourable review

Great entry level into a "real" digital SLR type camera for both still images and video.

Good camera, good image quality. STM kit lens is good multipurpose set-up. The image sensor is quite good but its not quite as fast as a film camera when balancing ISO, exposure time. Canon software was more than a little fidgety connecting to a modern Mac OS but the phone software is super great and potentially super useful as a remote for shutter trigger but also to adjust the camera's settings remotely.

  • Most critical review

Not a good camera. Feels like a toy.

The grip is so bad and cannot even time lens while holding the grip. The menu systems are mediocre compared to a6000 series. Video quality is good but too little options in general. Unless you want vlogging camera on budget, I would get a6300 ten times over this.

  • Better than previous "M" series cameras

Better than previous "M" series cameras. Digital through the lens viewing along with LCD panel on back makes this superior to M1 and M3 cameras that must rely on LCD during daylight shooting. The side grip is improved to allow you to hold onto the camera without an attachment. I have liked the M series as a small alternative to the bulkier EOS SLR bodies but the lack of grip made it necessary to add an auxiliary grip or pistal grip. I wish Canon would add an external shutter trigger port and the camera would have all the feature plus equal image quality to Canon EOS SLR models.

  • Lightweight with great features.

I enjoy the new camera. I'm learning how to use the functions, because it is quite complex, with multi-functions. I like the size as well. It will be easy to take on a long international trip because it is not some big heavy box. The camera delivers good picture quality. I was able to get info from a YouTube tutorial, and have just now received my Owner's Manual- all 314 pages of it! I am a happy camper.

  • Great light digital

As it has more features than my EOS Rebel digital camera, there is a learning curve. Great that the operator manual is on the Canon web site as the manual that comes with the camera has tiny print

  • Best canon mirrorless camera

This camera has lots of cool little features, the WiFi makes it so easy to transfer photos directly to your iPhone or smartphone! I live this camera! The built in electronic viewfinder works amazing as well!

  • Great Travel Camera

Most review seem to look at this as a vlogger's tool but I'm not a vlogger, I do travel internationally annually and that was my interest in this camera. I like to travel light so packing my full-size DSLR rig and all it's lenses was out of the question. Previously I was carrying a Canon point and shoot but I wanted a rig with more versatility and interchangeable lenses. The M50 is perfect. Take the lens off and you can slide it in your pocket. The single 18-150mm lens seems the perfect walking around lens that will let you capture all the vacation snaps you want. The fully articulated view screen allows you to see and frame group shots or selfies with you in the shot. It's lightweight, compact, has 4K video and most of Canon's leading capabilities. For me it is the perfect travel camera.

  • Great value!

The pictures are great, video quality is awesome. I would recommend this camera to anyone looking to get into entry level photography/video. I definitely prefer the image and picture quality in manual mode. If you have no experience in photography take the time to learn how to setup the camera and learn to shoot manually. There are plenty of good tutorials online specifically for this camera.

  • Great camera, easy to use interface and amazing images.

I’ve used many Canon cams and this one far surpasses the ease of use of most of them. That and the fact that the images are truly amazing makes this a great buy for me. I highly recommend it. It’s size just makes it that much more a pleasure to handle.

  • Couldn't be happier!

Being my first mirrorless camera I knew it was much more advanced than your point and shoot. Overall the user interface is very simple and has guides to assist you with taking the best photos possible. With an adapter sold separately you can adapt any of your current Canon EF lenses to this to really expand your range. The kit lens has alot of great uses and the overall quality of the image is unbelievable! Very satisfied with it.
