Review Brother L14s
Machine generally good value for money. Basic easy to use machine. A few features that stop it being 5*. The clear cover over the bobbin is a cheap brittle plastic which I'm not sure will stand the test of time, I think it will be the first thing to break. The mechanism to fill the bobbin is set way too high and if you are not very careful the cotton ends up wound around the shaft. It is very easy to thread and the White strip behind the needle helps to highlight the hole in the needle. Doesn't do anything fancy but unless you are an expert and need lots of different stitches then this machine is perfect. I bought this as needed a quick replacement for my machine that has been playing up and had a project to do for a friend. I've just made 6 pairs of curtains and recovered 7 motor home cushions and it handled the job without any problems. I would happily recommend this machine.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Fantastic for beginners and above
Perfect machine for beginners and above. The instructions were clear and succinct, and the machine was easy to use. It is a straightforward machine, but don't be fooled by its simplicity—it can still do most of what you need (loads of different stitch options, includes spare bobbins and different feet). Overall, if you're looking for a machine that can do all your alterations (or to make your own clothing), this is perfect for people who are new to it. HANDY MACHINE
I bought this machine recently, as I needed an "inexpensive" unit, for general repairs and making a few household items. I find it easy to use, though if I stitch for longish stretches at full speed, the reels of Gutermann thread spool off too quickly and tangle around themselves, breaking the thread. This is not a fault of the machine. Just coming back a tad from flat out, resolves the issue. I will try other quality threads which may have different reels, thus alleviating the problem.
