    Samsung S5 Smartphone

Though at the time I am writing this Samsung is already pushing the remnants of its S6 and Edge products, it is already on the cusp of releasing the S7. I purchased this for the pricepoint and the fact that it has a removable battery and an internal port for a micro-SD card for additional memory storage. Had Samsung included these features in later incarnations I might have decided to upgrade to a newer model, but as so many cell phone makers today are relying on two gimmicks (cloud storage and more expensive internal memory upgrades) I wanted to get a phone that will be practical and last me for 4 or more years before I have to get acquainted with yet another complex device. Battery life is long in this baby. I clung to my HTC Thunderbolt until it became far too slow for internet connections and even basic browsing in some instances. My former smart phone was a great device when it came out and so I think I may have struck thunder twice with the S5. The S5 is packed with enough features and flexibility that upgrading to an S6 or S7 is likely not for me in the near future. I am not a gamer, and do not rely heavily on cloud storage or streaming video by the gigabyte. Given that many practical Android apps are free this makes for a good, practical and useful tool for myself personally and for my business. I am not thrilled by some of the navigational quirks and am used to being able to backup my SMS and other internal items on the SD card and even being able to transfer them to my PC, but I am sure there is an app for that somewhere. The camera is very good, works fine and provides sufficient quality photographs that it dispenses with the use of a pocket digital camera or external digital SLR or range-finder camera. The panoramic feature is something I truly appreciate. There is still a lag time between photos but one can set the camera to do multiple shutter exposures if necessary. The ring tones are not all that great, but I was able to download some freebies without strings attached from Google Play. Overall it does what its supposed to do. Navigation is a pain. I am used to being able to flip my screen to my app icons and just hit the internet connection and hot spot icons and poof I am on and tethered. Here you have to first connect (I stay off the net till I need it to conserve battery resources and keep usage down) and then navigate to another area to turn on the hotspot or bluetooth for tethering. For half the price of a newer incarnation its a good value and will give you practically the same features.

Poor battery life and slow OS

I bought this brand new and used it for just over one year. Battery life is very poor I even bought a replacement battery and it didn't help. The last version it upgraded to was Android Lollipop. Camera was nice and took great photos. The phone always seemed to run sluggish. It eventually stopped charging batteries. To my surprise, a $75.00 Moto E4 phone was tremendously faster than this phone ever was. I always thought owning a flagship phone by Samsung was the best option for android. But I am finding out many mid-range brands offer comparable or better phones than Samsung for hundreds of dollars less.

  • Nice phone but 2 Issues

The phone has a lot of nice features, easy to use, perfect size. I have had 2 issues. The phone that I got from Diana's Cell was in perfect condition on the outside. I am not sure if the 2 issues that I am having is the model or just the age of the phone (2015) when I bought it new (2017$. 2 issues: 1. The sound seemed muffled like in a tunnel and soft. I am still working with tech support, but those who hear me are having issues hearing a small cracklings soiund. I have no issues hearing callers. 2. I must charge it almost every night. I disabled all of the apps that I don't use, but there are a lot that come with the phone that cannot be removed. I could only disable their notifications and put on the power-saving mode to help the life of the battery.

  • Fast and works great

The S5 is a great phone. It takes some time to remove the bloatware and unwanted apps, but it manages memory well and has good battery life. You will need a SIM card for storage expansion or the memory will quickly fill. The S5's Achilles heel, like many phones today, is the screen's risk of damage. I don't know how I broke my screen, but the ballistic glass screen protector I added held it together for quite some time. Eventually, I had to replace the phone, but I got the same model.

  • Galaxy S5

So far everything is as it should be, great visuals, great camera, etc. I'm not a technical whiz, but it seems to be working fine. My only hang-up (no pun intended) is that I was hoping for a longer battery life. I'm averaging only a little more than 1 day on a full charge hardly using the internet or making phone calls or texting. It mostly sits in stand-by.

  • Samsung Galaxy S5

I have been using these phones for awhile and love it. Yes it may not be the latest or greatest but it does everything i ask of it. I love that i am able to switch out batteries and add my own SD card to expand the memory. While you cannot put apps on the SD card you can save your photos and videos to it. The camera is okay not the best or the worst i have seen. Battery life if comparable to most smart phones.

  • Phone with changeable battery.

I like the Galaxy S5 for one simple reason... you can change the battery so you don't have to have to be tethered to a cable for charging. Replacement batteries and chargers are inexpensive so it makes sense to get a phone that you can change the battery. I do not want a phone that you can't change the battery. Samsung needs to fix this problem or I will look for another brand the next time I need a new phone.

  • LOVE THE S5

My other phone was the same model. Just had charging issues due to using the wrong charger for 3 years. ( my fault) It's easy to navigate. The screen is big enough to use for internet service. It takes very nice photographs even though the storage is only 16 GB, you can save them to the cloud or Google photos. I paid $100 for this same phone 3 years ago it was used. Never had any problems with it at except for recently overheating due to the battery not charging. I have Verizon so all I did was swap my SIM card and do a setup on the phone,so easy All of my contacts, texts transfered to this new phone except for my photos but that is because my contract wouldn't allow me to save photos on the iCloud. I guess because I have prepaid. But I saved them to Google photos before I swap phones. And I appreciate the charger being original Samsung. I purchase the S View flip open cover for this because they work very well and protect the phone really good and they still fit in your back pocket. LOVE MY S5

  • I love this phone

I love the galaxy s5, and recommending them to others who want a nice phone but don' have a lot of money. I have gotten the one I have, and also ones to give others (in my family) and get "reconditioned" and they have always been like new. Why spend a lot of money for a phone, when it could be dropped, or got wet or something.. I figure people keep buying newer phones and sell the previous model, which is just as good and lower price. it does everything a cell phone should (though I think iphones have more gadgets but cost so much more) this is good size, to see, and have a great camera, think it's 16 mp, and the battery is easy to change. I have extra batteries and a wall charger, so usually don't plug it in and wait for it to charge (though this takes about 2 hours) I take the back off, take out the low battery put in a fresh one and put the low one in a wall charger. About once a day.. I use the phone all the time, I have audio files in it I listen to. It has a lot of storage space, too but I have an sd card in it for the audios, It have had it with Verizon but now have it with Straight Talk. The review questions on the top of this says "Dopes it have a small form factor?" I have no idea what that is, I googled it and still confused. It said it's something to reduce the sound on computers... I checked NO on it but this might not be right.

  • Good phone if you know how to set your carrier APN

Great phone, love the camera and the speed of the phone, charged battery once a day and got enough power for 14 hours. The only hicups I had were to change some setting so it would work with my carrier T-Mobile. 1. Had to change the vocemail number but it could only be done while you are in a call. 2. Had to set my carrier APN to access internet and data when not connected to wifi network. 3. Had to change the DTMF default to use the keypad during a call. After those changes it just works great.
