High stick glue in a fine tipped, easy to squeeze bottle.
I have been using Pinflair Book Binding glue for years. It is a good quality PVA glue with less water in it so it sticks quickly without wrinkling the paper. Pinflair glue
It works Okay. Its remarkably similar to ordinary PVA glue, it even smells the same. PVA is very common and very cheap to buy. It can be found in most supermarkets under woodwork and craft supplies. It is safe for children to use. As to its "non acidic" properties I cannot judge. Unfortunately I dont have the necessary Ph testing kit.
