A little goes a long way
We wrapped an old maple tree with duck tape, and put the Tanglefoot on the tape in the 1980s. The caterpillars kept trying to figure out how to get across it until they died. The pile of caterpillars at the base of the tree was gross, but well worth it. When the season was over we just cut off the tape. One container of Tanglefoot will go a long way. Our 30 year old contain never dried out, and looked just like the new one.
This year we have an orchard of tiny apple trees under attack. We are using large Styrofoam cups with the bottom removed to put the Tanglfoot on at the base of the trees. I thought soil splashing on it in the rain would be a problem, but so far it’s not. We placed the Tanglefoot on a strip of sheet metal around the raised nursery bed, so we would be able to get in with the newly grafted trees. Great product, just wish I could have found it in the store.
