Really well thought out.
Really nicely engineered vice, the lever operation is great, it grips hook sizes from tiny up 5/0 with no problem. the rotation control is also really effective. I was using a cheaper offset type vice before this, but I find the Kaiman vice much easier to use with no issues as the hook is set well forward of the vice body. Comes with a spring loop and allen keys. for adjustment. Base has a good weight to it also, whole thing has a very solid feeling, really pleased with it. I tie mostly predator flies, saltwater streamers and small baitfish 5/0 down to trout size blobs and streamers.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Simple to use and robust
It is simple to assemble the two parts of vice and pedestal straight out of the box. This vice holds a wide range of hooks very firmly without any need to adjust any settings. Although not a true rotary vice, it is easy to rotate the fly whilst tying to inspect from different angles. It is easy to change from right handed to left handed tying. It would not suit someone with a very weak grip. It appears to be of robust construction. Using a flytying vice is clearly a very personal choice with many options and price points. Great little vice
This is a great vice! Compared to my cheap old Indian made vice, the quality of the Stonfo Kaiman is amazing. Admittedly it costs more but I can see this lasting me a lifetime. Like many other folk I was unsure if the plastic-coated pedestal base would be stable enough but I have had no problems with it - it has quite some weight to it and I now actually prefer this style of pedestal base compared to a c-clamp. The jaws are solid and strong yet small enough to handle tiny fly hooks, the lever is nice and quick for swapping hooks, and the rotation is smooth and adds a whole new level of convenience to my fly tying.
