About this product

Product Information

This complete guide to LEGO (R) Therapy contains everything you need to know in order to set up and run a LEGO (R) Club for children with autism spectrum disorders or related social communication difficulties and anxiety conditions. By providing a joint interest and goal, LEGO (R) building can become a medium for social development such as sharing, turn-taking, making eye-contact, and following social rules. This book outlines the theory and research base of the approach and gives advice on all practical considerations including space, the physical layout of the room and choosing and maintaining materials, as well as strategies for managing behaviour, further skill development, and how to assess progress. Written by the pioneer of the approach alongside those who helped form it through their research and evaluation, this evidence-based manual is essential reading for professionals working with autism who are interested in running a LEGO (R) Club or learning more about the therapy.

  • Heard about Lego Therapy - But its Better !

I have heard about Lego Therapy and wanted to learn more. I work with children with ASD and have tried many forms of therapy to teach social, language and team interaction skills. Nothing has come close to Lego Therapy. You get an idea in how to set up and run a session, with direct input of what to and what not to say. My first session was an overwhelming success, not that we got to build a Lego project, but we started to see interaction between our ASD participants. They were excited to work with the Lego but needed to follow the rules of team play to be on a team. They were excited about being on a team, about the role they had to play and had their fair share of problems in the process. But thats what it is about, getting the children to work through the social, language and team play problems. I was so surprised that they did! After so many programs that focused on an individual child, this one actually has them working together as a team with the need to communicate. Communication is not always verbal. It can be a glance or pointing, but it is getting a point across to another individual. I have had many sessions with the children now actually asking for sessions and wanting to sharing their experience with family members. It can get expensive with buying the Lego. It is important to keep the projects separate in their own boxes. We have had a few mix ups and you can guess who has to fix it... Hope this review helps you decide if this is for you or not.
