Windows 8.1 Mobile is better than Windows 10 Mobile

I have a Microsoft Lumia 550 running Windows 10 Mobile. I find that Windows 8.1 Mobile is much easier to use for both emails and for browsing. I bought the Nokia Lumia 630 because it runs Windows 81. Mobile. The way in which Windows 10 handles emails is strange. For example a deleted email remains on the phone until deleted from the deleted folder. Unless you are aware f this then you can fill up the memory with unwanted emails; you get the error message to delete apps or data. With the Nokia Lumia 630 the emails in the deleted folder are deleted when you do something simple such as restart the phone. I had real trouble with this 'feature' of the 550 until I discovered that I had a couple of thousand deleted emails on the phone (and deleted them). There is an option to automatically BCC yourself when you send an email. This option does not exist on the 550. I have found that some JPEG do not display on the 550 but do display on the 630. On the 'downside' of the 630, there is only one camera whereas the 550 has two. This means that you can't make video calls on the 630 which include a picture of yourself and the person you are calling unless you have a mirror to see the screen! You can make video calls on the 550. Recently I had a serious crash with the 630 when the machine was updating. In fact the machine was 'bricked'. Microsoft (on their website) have a utility called a Windows Recovery Tool which allows you to reinstall the Windows 8.1 Mobile on a 'bricked' machine. Although this took about 30 minutes (or more) I restored a brand new copy of Windows 8.1 Mobile to the phone.

It is OK as a backup, but Microsoft have been terrible in supporting it

It is ok as a backup phone with offline navigation capability. BUT - it is of course a Windows phone and has a reduced rage of apps compared to Android or IOS. One of the main reasons for buying this phone was for access to good quality offline vehicle navigation - but I am horrified to find that the latest updates for the operating system prevent offline maps being stored in the SD card!!! This a criminal and deliberate hobbling of what would otherwise be a really exellent sat nav device. Now I have to be careful how many maps I download as they are all stored in internal memory, Ridiculous and idiotic. Microsoft deserve serious criticism for such stupidity. I actually like the Windows Mobile interface - the apps that exist work reasonably well. One thing to note if choosing this as a backup phone - take the battery out when not being used as the phone will regularly wake itself up and connect to wifi etc to get updates and when you go to the phone weeks later - it will be dead. I think there may be a way to turn off this behaviour, but unless you make sure this IS turned off, you may be in for a nasty surprise.

  • Great little Nokia

The Nokia 650 is a great little windows (8) phone. My folks both have one of these, and they are ideal for the shall we say slightly older generation. They are easy usable and the Windows operating system works just like the. Tablet that my parents also use. As this phone is an unlocked version, then obviously we can use any. Provider. The internal phone memory is slightly small but Even so. you can add an external SD card. So. This obviously increases the storage. On the whole I'd recommend. I have 950XL as well as a 1020. But. For a replacement to on Android. On a budget. This is an ideal product.

  • Problems problems

Had this phone for less than a month and twice it has frozen and become unusable. I took off the back of the phone, not easy, and removed the battery and started up again. It worked. This is supposed to be a brand new phone and having problems after only 1 month does not fill me with confidence Yes it's a decent phone but if not working then not at all good value for money

  • the phone will need to be returned

This phone looked very cheap and used when I received it, there was very little information about how to use the phone at all - apart from a cheaply printed leaflet, which only gave the very basics! But the worst thing was.. I brought this phone for my mother so I deliberately brought this phone because it said it was 'unlocked and ready to go'....yet the whole phone was set in polish so I was unable to do anything with it, it was definitely not cleared down and ready to use as suggested in the advert!!! So I brought a phone especially, charged it and went to use it and was unable to do anything, I had to ask a polish friend how to do the most simple things and even then - there were still elements she didn't even understand!!!! I will be sending this phone back - please read my message and reply to me advising me the best way of sending this back to you! Thank you, Hannah

  • 'Lightweight with great features' easy to use.

Easy to use, compatible with my windows 10 Microsoft computer. I have always used a Nokia Windows phone. Cannot see why people spend hundreds of pounds on I phones.

  • Nokia 630

Not the latest phone available lacks some of the newer technology ,fairly uncomplicated to use a little on the chunky side it's an inexpensive intro to pay as you go phone would definitely replace with the same model if required to do so.

  • Go Nokia!

I have just upgraded from the Nokia Lumia 800 to the Lumia 630, and I'm not disappointed. I have always had a Nokia mobile phone since 1995 and I continue to get quality and value for money. The best asset for me is familiarity with settings and ease of use. Definitely a strong recommendation for older users who don't necessarily want to use their mobile in lieu of laptops or tablets.
