Not had a sighting compass before so need to read the instructions properly. Item has good reviews and is made in Finland though they are now being made in China, which I dont think will do the makers reputation much good at all.so I was pleased to get one actually made in Finland. They have a good reputation for quality. A good buy at a reasonable price for a brand new compass.

  • An excellent hiking compass

A well made compass, with some nice features, like: Luminous where it needs to be; Magnifying lens; Three non-slip pads to stop it sliding around on your map; Declination (or Variation) scale; Three Romer scales; cm / mm ruler; Inch / 1/16" ruler. The compass needle comes to rest quickly. Still a lot of money, but one of the better compasses for hiking, etc.

  • Sila compass expedition 4

I think it cost me £18 with postage, light weight and great value. I'm just starting out learning how to use a compass and this is ideal. I've found loads of videos on YouTube on how to use. It's simple with the silva 3 step system. Definitely recommend for a first compass.

  • Reliable in all conditions

I have had many Silva compasses in my life, I now own two - as a handheld instrument it is more than adequate. I would never use a Satnav or a phone a compass never has a flat battery (?)

  • Does exactly what I need it for!

This compass was a recommended piece of kit for a winter mountaineering course which is coming up, and I have to say, this is a really easy to use with all the scales you will need for different maps. Does exactly what I need it for!

  • Best Compass

Does everything you need it to do. Robust and functional. This one is for my grandson. My original, still working perfectly, is over 30 years old. Highly recommended by me, as an ex-Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme assessor.

  • Great compass, shame about the package

This is the definitive compass for outdoor navigation. So why have I given it just four stars? Because it was almost impossible to get out of the pack. In the end I had to use a knife, and the compass got scratched. So... a great compass in a terrible package.

  • Compassi or compasses?

Silva compass are always a good trusty tool, or is it compassi, or compasses? More used to working in mils but no real need in the uk, and the degrees model is cheaper, win win!

  • Has every feature you need.

The Silva Compass is one of the best and has all the features you need. This was bought to replace a cheaper compass which we found difficult to rotate the centre bezel when out navigating with OS maps......we no longer have that problem.
