For serious charging needs
After buying a handful of cheap battery banks for 3.99€ that promise water resistance, solar charging and other gimmicks, only to have them fail within weeks, it's nice to finally have a quality piece of kit to take on my trips.
First of all, there's no solar charging on this thing. I have found solar charging to be a silly gimmick that doesn't work with a panel of this size, so I'm glad it isn't there to tempt me. (I kept leaving my other units on my dashboard all day... hoping... only to be disappointed every time when it didn't charge a whit. Best to just charge the thing conventionally and actually have it work when you need it.) Second, this is a massive chunk of metal that is considerably heavier than I expected. If you're looking for a slim, unobtrusive thing, this is NOT YOUR DEVICE. It's relatively huge, and weighs as much as a collapsed star. But it feels like it could survive a fall from an airplane and every surface is armored and robust. I take long trips in old cars to remote locations, and this is perfect for me. It can take a beating and is always there when I need it.
Which brings me to my last point. The capacity of this device is, quite simply, MASSIVE. I have been using mostly cheap 5000mAh units from the far east, and they would charge my iPhone maybe twice if fully juiced. Helpful, but for a four days in the wilderness I would need to bring two or sometimes even three of them. But this things packs the kind of wallop that allows it to be the only charging solution I bring. I recently charged my iPhone four times and my wife's Nokia once, and it still showed the full "four lights" of capacity remaining. I don't know what it would take to run it out of juice, but I haven't gotten anywhere near there yet.
So don't expect a delicate, slim little thing. Prepare yourself for some size and heft. But if you're okay with that, this beast is a wonderful performer.
