Timeless design
The Leica M-P camera does not have all the latest bells and whistles, and was never intended to, but it is an extremely well crafted tool to allow the photographer to concentrate on the essentials of photography like composition, depth of field, resulting bokeh, area of primary focus and exposure - without being distracted by the camera itself. I also have a Lumix G9 with two Leica/Panasonic zooms, and I love it's ergonomic balance, image quality (for a zoom), decent logical layout, and the fact that I can technically do nearly anything I want with it; but I find myself concentrating too much on the camera and technology and less on the image creation itself. As mentioned, the opposite is true with my Leica M-P experience. Using a manual focus rangefinder is nothing like an SLR or Mirrorless EVF type of camera, so be sure it is for you before making the investment. I have been and still use a Leica M3 for B&W film travel photography for the last 35+ years so I was quite familiar with it. I like that the viewfinder is bright and crisp and simply frames my composition (and shows me a some area outside of my composition when I use my 50mm). I would rather imagine the resulting picture crafted in my mind, than see it in an EVF - but that is just my opinion. As to the image quality with my 50mm Summicron, it is razor sharp, with vibrant but neutral color rendering, and the images with my 24mm Elmar are the same and without any visible distortion for such a wide angle (the M-P's viewfinder frames out to 28mm, but the 24mm captures a bit beyond the entire view (I use a external viewfinder with it on my M3, but don't want to buy a 2nd one or keep switching it between cameras). The build quality of the M-P is solid and precise (and heavy), just like it is on my 1957 M3. It is also a testimony to Leica's original M rangefinder design that the camera still is adaptable and relevant to the digital world. It is cool and unique that I can have two cameras around my neck that nearly look and function the same and built by the same factory almost 60 years apart. Similar to a Porsche 911, or a Rolex Submariner, how many products stand this test of time?
