Really great NAS !
This is a really great NAS, really easy to set up and very fast. The supplied software packages are really good for Windows and it operates invisibly in the background on my Windows machines. It has limited support for Linux which I have on several machines. Cloud station backup does work on my Linux machines but it is more a manual process. There are plenty of Linux backup apps out there so this is a minor issue. I haven't tried it as a media server yet, I use it as a home and work computer backup. easy, works great, exactly what i wanted
bought it to establish a wireless backup for our pics, music, and whatever other files. trusty seagate wired hard drive still going strong, mostly, but it's 15 years old and a couple of files i think have started to go a little funny. want the convenience of pushing a button from my phone and pictures are saved, and seem to have found it. still playing around with it, only set up for a few days so - no judge at all about reliability. but good so far. the fact that i am not a techie but found setup relatively easy is a big score, and very much what i was looking for. explicitly, we have a wd mycloud from a few years ago that i never got working, at least the way i wanted, and it hasn't been used since shortly after setup. what a contrast! so far nothing but positives to say, very happy, and very happy with my seller, ccl computers in bradford.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

A great NAS with loads of features
In many ways the Synology DS218j is more than I need but it has one or two killer features - if I wanted to see my movies on the big Samsung downstairs I had to use you tube with all its compression. Now I can watch my stuff in HD direct from this server and the difference is huge. Photos and music can be streamed as well though it would be just duplicating what I already have. Good nas
Much better than wd my cloud ex2100 that it has replaced. That was unreliable and broke down. This Synology has proper ventilation slots underneath and this seems to make the difference as the mycloud ex2100 was regularly getting up to 35 degrees and then reporting disc failures. Same discs different Nas and no disc failures. Highly recommended. Easy to setup. Disc installation requires screws and screwdriver.
