Beautiful dispaly model. Needs customizatiion work to be an operationg model
This particular model was used but like new. All the factory supplied accessories where still in their sealed bags. I don't think the model was even broken in. I ran the model as if it were new to break it in and it ran much smoother and quieter after a couple of hours, The detail and paint is incredible. A very nice model. HOWEVER! I purchased and added a DCC decoder. The installation was easy and straightforward because the decoder was "plug and play". I had probems with the locomotive stalling, however, especially at trunouts even though I have "powered" frogs. None of my other locomotives stall nor hesitate running through turnouts. What I discovered about this Bachmann 3 truck Shay was only 1 truck picks up power. Four wheels! That's rediculous. This was my first Bachmann and will be my last. The decoder I purchased does not have provisions to install a keep alive, so I've ordered a different decoder and a keep alive. It is not a sound decoder so I'm hoping the keep alive will keep the locomotive running through turnouts and sections of dirty track. If not, I'll have to add power pickups to one of the other trucks, but I'd rather not have to do that.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

Cracked gear on drive line
One of the gears on a wheel set was not engaging which made the wheel set free rolling. This is a well document issue with this product. But since it was advertised as ‘new’ I was surprise have an issue with a cracked gear on the drive line.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New
