TP-Link HS110 review
I have two of these devices, one is the HS100 and the other is the HS110. The difference is that the 100 does not show power consumption of any connected devices in kWh, where the 110 does show this.
Each therefore has its own user case and you should select the one you want based on if you need to see power consumption specifically.
The device is no better or worse in terms of design and looks than any other plug in device of a similar purpose.
Both devices can handle a maximum of 13amp switching, and I use one of my devices to switch the charger on for an electric car, which draws a 10amp continuous load. The load remains constant at 10 amps for around 4 hours, so is a good indication that the device has a constant rating and will handle heavy loads.
The 100 is much cheaper than the 110 to purchase, coming in at between half to two thirds the cost of the 110.
They can be controlled from the device itself using the button on the front face above the socket on the device. Alternatively they can be controlled using a phone app called Casa, which can be downloaded from the App Store. I use an I-phone so cannot comment on the android version of the app.
Setting up the app was very straight forward and took about 1 minute. Apart from being able to switch on the power from the app anywhere in the World, you can also see usage data. On the 100 it is just time that the unit is switched on, per day, per 7 days, per 30 day intervals. On the 110 you have the added feature of usage in KWh in addition to time as with the 100. It would be nice if the 110 showed some usage history in a histogram, or had a data download facility.
You can personalise the icon and name for each device in the app, so you can recognise what each device is switching.
There is also a multi-event timer, great for where you want something to come on and go off regularly. It also allows you desperately to configure the device for security purposes.
Use of the app is free unlike some other apps for other hardware, so this is a good option if you want an upfront charge for hardware but no on-going charges.
My verdict is:
Style and design - 9/10
Functionality - 9/10
Cost and on going cost - 10/10
Ease of setup - 10/10
Load handling capability - 10/10
