When used as a test fuel component in anti-knock test engines, a 100% heptane fuel is the zero point of the octane rating scale (the 100 point is 100% iso-octane). Octane number equates to the anti-knock qualities of a comparison mixture of heptane and isooctane which is expressed as the percentage of isooctane in heptane and is listed on pumps for gasoline (petrol) dispensed globally.

Useful solvent
Need to get some spilt superglue off the carpet. n-heptane is the solvent for the chemical that breaks up the glue. Like any low molecular alkane compound, treat with great respect especially the fire risk.

Removal of self adhesive stamps from backing paper.
Works well up to a point but not very effective on some of the brown backing paper. Not as efficient as “lighter fuel” but much more economic.
