Overheating possibility
I used my KH980 to charge these on one of the hot days in summer. When charging the first set, the batteries and charger got very hot, causing the plastic covering of the batteries to shrink partly exposing the metal case, and white powder to come out of one of them. I do not know how long they were on charge for. I thought it was the first time that I had charged batteries with a capacity as high as this, but I had forgotten that I had bought a set a year or two ago and I did not notice a problem with them. I was worried about charging the second set, so after the charger showed one of the batteries charged after 2 hours I removed all 4. The voltages did not seem quite the same as I was used to for Nickel metal hydride batteries, but on-line searches seemed to indicate that the voltages were as expected. There are 3 factors to consider: the high summer ambient temperatures (30C) when I was charging, the charger's ability to stop charging at the correct point in the charge cycle and any differences in the structure of the batteries, either generally or that particular set. I do not know the answers.
