  • Great tool, but only for very old (20+ years old) vehicles

This tool would have been top-of-the-line back in the 1990s, but it would have been considered obsolete 20 (or more) years ago. If you are working on 30 year old cars, then you need 30 year old tools (such as this one). I would only recommend this for pre-OBDII vehicles (for example, I am using mine on a 1992 Mercedes that uses a proprietary 38 pin connector). For more modern vehicles, there are (much) better choices available at much lower cost. These days you can get a good deal on these older (obsolete) tools, but it is only a good deal if you are working on a vehicle that isn't well supported by the more modern tools. If you buy one of these, make sure that it comes with the cartridges and personality keys that you need for your vehicle (or order those parts separately; they are not that expensive). This device will NOT work (at all) without those ancillary parts. Things like cartridges for European cars tend to be the hardest items to find for these scanners; I recommend that you find those first (before buying the scanner). When you buy these old snap-on scanners, the internal battery will usually have failed. The scanner will still work with a bad battery (powered by the diagnostic port when you plug it into your car), but you will have to re-enter your vehicle info every time and will lose any stored data when you shut off the ignition switch. Replacement batteries are readily available and cost $50-$60 (US), or you can make one yourself (they are nothing special; just get the output voltage right and be sure to use rechargeable batteries!). WT2500 is a very similar unit to this one, but older and with even fewer features (my memory says that it doesn't do graphing for example). Depending on what you are trying to do, this model may be enough for you. It takes the same cartridges/keys and should be a bit cheaper.

  • A gamble that paid off

Advertised as not tested, body only. Was a gamble, BUT IT WORKS when hooked up. Should not have been listed as a graphing scanner though as the pic shows it is not.
