  • Keratex hoof putty

Works very well if applied correctly. Area needs to be clean and dry. I flush with hydrogen peroxide first. Dry the area thoroughly then scrape clean. Warm the putty before pressing it into the hole. Build up in layers and press in thoroughly. My horse has a large void in the front wall due to abscess. The putty has stayed in well but I recommend digging it out checking for any decay etc then repacking occasionally. It doesn’t seem to work so well if the area to be filled is wide and shallow. If so it will need much more regular repacking.

  • Difficult to use

Perhaps because it’s winter with low temperatures I found this extremely difficult to get soft enough to mould into the hole on the horses foot. I even put a small amount of it on the top of my Rayburn cooker in the hope that it would soften up, without a great deal of success. If it could be made soft enough I believe that it is a good product, only a small amount would be needed, making it value for money. Some idea of how to make it really malleable would be good on the instructions as I found that no matter how I rolled it in my hand it didn’t soften, but perhaps I was expecting it to be like glazing putty.

  • Rock hard and difficult to use.

I read many accounts of how this product has worked for some, but not for others.Unfortunately I am one of the "others".It was a time consuming task to remove from the tin.As advised, I warmed it after wrapping in film and when needed, kneaded it into workable blobs. The product seemed to set in my horses' hoof and I groomed him before turning out I checked it an hour later and it had fallen out. This happened twice.

  • Excellent

Excellent product, super easy to use once out of the tin. It's helping my mares hoof heal after ripping some of her hoof wall off.

  • Great product

I have used this product for years for horses that suffer from corn area pressure, my farrier uses it every time he shoes a horse that the corns turn in, he rolls a ball into the corn area and then shoes over the top.
