    It filters well

I used this for filtering sloe gin which had been infusing for three months. This meant there was a lot of detritus to filter so annoyingly the coarse filters clogged really quickly. Once I worked out how to filter most of the big stuff out (filter cloth stuffed in the filter housing if you’re interested) then the ACTUAL filters could do their job. So expensive first attempt it an excellent unit. Just don’t expect the coarse filter to remove lots of gunk that sloes produce. Highly recommended and the delivery was extremely quick as were hastily ordered extra coarse filters.

Expected more but might be me!

Instructions quite good. Put together and used to strain a sloe gin. Did not do too badly although I suspect I expected a better result. End product still needed filtering so will try something different next time to test.

  • Updated Replacement

Bought to replace older version. Good quality & fairly easy to use. Great for clearing my large quantity of home-made wine.

  • pretty expensive for little reward

Dose not fit together very well . You have to really be precise and careful when putting it together . Pads don't last very long , the first one i tried barely filtered a 5 ltr demi john of well racked white .

  • Harris Wine Filter Kit

Clearly a more cheaply made item than what you see on videos, it was struggling to even filter water with initial pad rinse, hours and hours to filter 21 litres, 2 pads and still couldn't do last couple of litres, disappointing really, fresh pads and only a time consuming trickle, probably won't use again

  • Excellent bit of kit

An absolute essential for the home wine maker, easy to use, works very well. I don't know how I managed without it!

  • Add a great 'finish'

From a couple of gallons of very cloudy, undrinkable wine I now have 12 bottles of crystal clear delicious nectar. Once I got the hang of it, and ironed out a couple of tiny air leaks round the vent tube with a 'fillet' of petroleum jelly in the angle around the joints, the filter worked perfectly. I'd recommend using the 'Crystalbrite' every time (even if you pop a medium or fine grade on top). It will slow down the process, but the end result is worth it.
