    Really Great Product

Better than expected. This product can do everything that it says on the box. Sets really hard and solid. Best to layer it if you have a bigger job. Sands down just like wood and even takes a polish. Recommended.

  • Most critical review

Too grainy and translucent, poor adhesion, doesn’t sand well.

I’d expected this to be a decent product, because other Rustins stuff I’ve tried has been good. Sadly it’s the worst filler I’ve ever used, and it fails on almost every front, 1. It’s made up of large grains so it’s pretty rough when you apply it, it also doesn’t seem to want to stay in place. Tying to smooth it off or bed it in, just lifts it back out, 2. It’s almost translucent and doesn’t have enough pigment. Any shallow areas filled will show the colour underneath, which is really unacceptable. 3. It doesn’t adhere well when dry. Given that you can’t smooth it off when applying, the rough bits tend to snag as soon as you sand it, not matter how gentle you are. It then crumbles and falls apart or dislodges. Imagine crumbling up a digestive biscuit, adding a bit of water and filling your wood with that. It’s a similar experience with this stuff. Buy any other wood filler and I reckon you will be better off than buying this.

  • Good, but doesn’t go far...

This is one of the best plastic wood fillers on the market, but take it from me, if you have quite a few ‘deepish’ holes to fill, a 30g tube won’t last long. I bought it to fill in around 50 small countersunk’s in after placing screws just beneath the wood surface but soon realised that after a dozen or so fills l was fast running out of plastic wood. What l had to do was to mix some left over sawdust with white glue and plug the holes with that. When dry, l sanded them down and then used Rustins plastic wood to level off the surface. So, a good product then, but far too expensive for the amount you get.

  • Easy to use, looks good

Used on workshop outside to fill cracks in wood, easy to use and once dried was easy to sand, used yacht varnish to protect it, covered really well and looks great! Never know it was there without looking really close!

  • More Plastic than Wood

I bought this product to fill knot holes in my fence. It is easy to apply and looks OK but not really like wood. It didn't seem to take stain very much either. Nevertheless it did the job.

  • A traditional product that works

Plastic glue appears to have been around for ever. It does its job. It is not the easiest item to apply and requires patience to get a good result. But I know of no quality substitute.

  • Good match

Good for covering small areas but has to be worked into the defect fairly quickly as it starts to harden and then becomes a bit awkward to smooth off why still moist. Easy to sand afterwards

  • Joint crack

Filled the warm room (conservatory) window sill mitred joint crack perfectly - sands very easy to match existing profile - let's hope it does shrink during the warm weather, time will tell.

  • Easy to use

I've installed several new internal doors, and inevitably there have been some areas on the doorframes that have needed to be filled and made good, and this has been easy to use, cures reasonably quickly and is easy to finish off with sandpaper or file, and takes paint very well. Even my wife has commented positively on the result!

  • Original and best, but very small tube

This product has been going for decades. It's very good, but you can get a big tub of generic wood filler for the same price.
