  • Bowies pop years - a mixed bag

This box set compiles the albums released during Bowies tenure on EMI, having left RCA. It also spans his time as a really big pop star. Like previous Bowie box sets it comes with the original albums that have been released to date from this era plus a few novelties - in this case a CD compiling dance mixes, and a remix of Never Let Me Down that strips out some of the 80s production and reveals some of the songs were better than remembered. The 3 studio LPs included are Let's Dance (still sounding good), Tonight (patchy) and the original Never Let Me Down (not very good at all with very dated production - stick to the remixed version). There are also two double CDs from the big tours of that Era - Serious Moonlight (great) and Glass Spider (OK). Lastly there is a Re:Call 4 CD which does the same job of its predecessors in early box sets of hoovering up other official releases of the era - single versions, B-sides and non-album material including his tracks from the Absolute Beginners and Labyrinth soundtracks. It's the least successful box set to date due to the quality of the original albums but will be great for completists and if you can pick it up cheap there's still plenty here to like for the casual fan with some of the stuff from later in this era better than remembered.

  • Another great Bowie Box

Wonderful box set at amazing price. In my opinion not his best period but still some gems in here. The new version of Never Let Me Down is a great improvement on the original.

  • Loving 'Loving the Alien'...

There are some wonderful remixes and remasters included here. This is a wonderful guide to Bowie's work during the 1980s, when he hit his commercial zenith.
