Halfords 40 litre 12 volt car cool box
Halfords 40 litre 12 volt car plus house mains plug cool box. I received my new cool box just over a week ago and so far so good, only time will tell how good it is, I have only put on at home a few days ago to see how good it is on the mains electricity. So far so good, I filled the cool box up switched it on and under the current 240 volt mains plug I have it turned up from the control knob about half way and the drinks are ice cold coming out of the cool box. I am currently impressed, this weekend I shall be putting it in the car for trial, although I must say I am a little worried about how hard it is going to be on the car battery. Once again only time will tell, my previous cool in the car was the same make but it was much smaller it was only a 14 litre. From past experience on the 14 litre cool box they can be very hard on the car battery, the way I worked my old one really worked well, when my engine was running my cool box was on, when engine was off the cool box was off, this saved and helped prolong my vehicles car battery. The other thing that I must stress is that my old cool box is 5 or six years old, so with today's technology and ratings I expect this new cool box to be more efficient but I still wouldn't leave it switched on whilst the car engine is off. The other thing that I did with my old one and I will continue to do with this new one is put some freeze packs in the cool box. I change my ice packs daily it helps keep everything cool while my vehicle engine is off. So from my previous experience with this product I would highly recommend it to anyone. Brilliant product, my old one is still working I just bought a new vehicle with a larger boot that will help accommodate the new 40 litre cool box. If you need one don't hesitate get it now. I have pictured my new cool box and my old one along side it showing the difference in size, and my old one is still in good condition and working well.

Great size for family use and kept the food and drinks well chilled for the bbq in last weeks heat. Worked perfectly off the caravan socket.
Worked perfectly the first time out. I plugged it into the lighter socket in the car to keep cool on the journey then transferred it easliy from the car to the caravan with the wheels and pulling arm. Magic Cool Box.
Had mixed reports about efficiency from people who purchased alternative makes, but this one has proved excellent. Works perfectly on 240 or 12 volt...kept ice packs frozen and my beers perfectly chilled. Glamper's Dream
I know 'a fridge is a fridge'.... however, this made our lives so much easier in the tent this year. No more messing with ice packs and food going off. The Halfords portable fridge has a handy tow handle and is a great size. You can easily see what's in it without having to empty it. Most bottles will stand up in it but those which won't will squeeze in at an angle. Where there's a will... Some water did appear at the bottom of the fridge regularly but apparently this is normal due to condensation which has nowhere else to go. So I did have to keep wiping it but it was no big deal. We held back for a long time buying a fridge as we always saw it as a luxury camping item but we now wish we'd invested years ago. Food isnt wasted and is always fresh. Picnics will be a dream as you can plug it into the car as well as mains on the campsite. We are looking forward to having this plugged in near the back door when we have parties so we can chill drink in it. Very impressed
I like the fact that it runs from 240v or 12v and the leads are inbuilt, tucked away in a little box on top. I used it over a 3 day camping trip and the white whine was as cold on the last day as it was on the first. Having the wheels on one side and an extended handle on the other is useful for when it's too heavy to carry. There must be some cons but compared to the smaller one it replaced, which had none of the above advantages, it really does seem excellent. Does exactly what it says on the box
Haven't given this item a full blown road test yet as such. But it is certainly well built and sturdy and pleasing to the eye, I like the wheels on the bottom but not totally sure how well the handle will perform over uneven ground. Have had it running in doors in a cool room and it certainly got things down to an exceptable cool level and held it there. Two dividing units that slip in and out so can be configured to take larger items. Will take tall drinks bottles as well the and at 40 Lt it should be big enough for the average small family.
