If You Want Real Crema...
then bin this and the pressurised basket and get yourself the non-pressurised type or one of the upgrades. I bought this out of curiosity as mine was missing and I had both types of baskets. The crema it produces is thin, watery and aerated, not the rich, creamy emulsification of oils that a proper crema should be. If you use stale, supermarket bought, pre-ground coffee then this will add a layer of fake crema & the uneducated will be non-the-wiser, however, if you're the type to buy fresh beans & grind them yourself then you won't be reading this review anyway as you'll already know better than to buy/use one of these things. Honestly, if you're going to take the time to make a good espresso or espresso based drink then do your taste buds a favour and do it right with a non-pressurised basket.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Perfect crema and really enhanced flavours
I took a punt for the less than fifteen quid and it has been remarkable. It just brings the best out of every brew. Guests have commented on the improved flavour without knowing about the upgrade. Only downside is that the grounds don't knock out like they do with a regular basket, so you have to use a spoon and dig them out, but it only takes a few seconds more, and it is so worth the extra faff. Worth the monet
So, its a little rubber gizmo that sits in the portafilter hole. Surprisingly it seems to improve the texture and taste of the coffee. I'm not sure how or why but for what it cost its worth having.
