I’m a huge Bob Ross fan. Some of his paints are ok. This one in particular in the large jar isn’t a good one. The paint sits in 1/8 of an inch of oil,and it still somehow dries out on the top with a sealed lid. So each scoop has chunks of dried paint in it. That causes real problems. Second, as far as Bobs signature liquid white, I find it to be ok for most paintings BUT his well known mountain snow that “breaks” is difficult to get with this compared to some other comparable level paint. I find that it is just a bit too wet. Bob preached about how you needed a dry, firm paint for his technique.
Overall his line of paint seems to have dropped significantly in quality since he was alive. Some,if not all of it used to be made in Philadelphia by Weber and if you can find a tube of that stuff it is amazing. Nice- firm and dry! I’ve poured tablespoons of oil from the top of every color in the new European made paints but Bright red,and Cad yellow. Every other Bob Ross paint color in the largest tube was just loaded with a significant amount of extra oil. Not good. Sadly I do not really recommend his line of paint, especially if you’re just starting. It will cause a lot of stress and discourage people from continuing. I only highly recommend the liquid white. That works fine if you use it lightly. Overall, I’d recommend Windsor and Newton oil paints. Especially for the titanium white. It is very dry and makes the most perfect mountain snow that breaks just like it is supposed to.
