A good starter coop for a few hens

Overall I am very pleased with the coop. It was purchased from a supplier who actually stated the number of birds it can hold based upon RSPCA guidelines. I have seen many other suppliers overstate the number of birds that this coop can hold. 4 to 5 large birds is spot on. Good quality wood used and metal parts used. I added more secure closures to the doors just in case Mr Fox or Badger comes a calling though. Pull out metal tray is easy to clean and unlike plastic won't stain or crack with age. Quick and easy to assemble; I gave it a few more coats of wood preserver as it only had a base coat. Minor niggles are that the perches are too small for the feet of large birds to grip so I have fitted the correct size. Chickens do not like draft so the coop will need to be sited in a sheltered location as the window on the front along with the access door will let in the wind. I have sorted this out on mine by draft proofing both to keep the chickens happy. I have also added 'curtains' to section of the nest boxes from the main coop as my experience chickens like privacy when egg laying! Ideal for back garden chickens and as a starter coop.

Terrible product, pictures are really deceptive

Tiny little coop, very poorly made, very little thought gone into what the animals need. There is a review on here that says someone fit 12 chickens in this coop, if that's true (and I hope it's not), that person should be in prison for cruelty to animals, it's barely big enough for 2 chickens! Even with only 2 chickens, 1 gets a nest box, and 1 gets the rest of the coop (which isn't saying much). With 2 chickens, you are going to struggle to fit in a feeder and drinker unless they are tiny (and not big enough for 2 chickens!), we have feeder and drinker in the run part but that means there is effectively nowhere in the run for the chickens. The pictures here are immorally deceptive. A word of warning, the policy is not to accept returns if it's been built, but you really can't tell how tiny it is until you've partly built it, just avoid this. The build quality is also extremely sub-standard; we had to drill extra holes, add extra screws and add extra materials just to make it safe for the chickens. For this price, it is possible to get a lot more and still be being ripped overcharged.

  • Well Made Chick Coop

Accurately cut coop - clever design and easy to assemble. Panels are a bit fragile though. Lots of 'fit gaps' requiring attention if your chickens do not like draughts in winter. Would also recommend roof protection against the elements for the longer term.

  • A little palace for my 3 partridges!

I rescued 5 '1 day old' partridge chicks. Lost 2 on the first night, but managed to hand rear the other 3, who are now 8 weeks old. They may be released at adulthood (6 months) to a country park, or possibly stay here, but with more room, if permanent. So happy with them! Please see pics! See how small they were, sitting in my hand, to how big they are now!

  • Well made product, easy to erect.

Well manufactured and neatly packaged item. Most of the panels were easy to identify although some dimensions on the instruction sheet would help. All fixings clearly identified and the whole thing went together very easily. We must wait to see how well it withstands English weather. We have 5 Pekin bantams and the unit is ideal for them. I would query whether it is really suitable for larger hens.

  • It's very nice

The coop is nice but not practical for me personally. I find it not that easy to get into to clean properly. It's only just big enough for 3 chicks but they do like it. The run is small too. But overall it is OK depending on what you need it for and how things are set up for your chicks.

  • Lightweight but sturdy when put together.

Lightweight but sturdy when put together (15 minutes) good pictorial instructions. Came in 2 days! I have one already since 5 years, happy home for 3-4 rescue hens to lay & sleep (they free range in the garden). This is for some Silkies I accidentally bought.

  • very happy keeper

Bought this coop for my 6 year old son starting his own business. Very easy to assemble, easy to clean, spacious for his 4 chickens (R Island Reds point of lay), but think that is about how many you could house. I have attached another run to it as the run that it comes with is not big enough. Very speedy delivery, arrived before it's estimated delivery and tracking service excellent. Would recommend.

  • Brilliant little hen house

My two girls love their new house. It was easy to put together, easy to clean, and more importantly for me - easy to move around. Would highly recommend.

  • Just right for one

This is just right for a single hen we had to separate out from our flock. She's also allowed out of the run during the day though. I can't see how 2+ hens would be happy for long in just that space. It was very easy to construct though and could be stored flat and put up very quickly for temporary accommodation. The wood though light weight appears of good quality. Small areas had escaped the preservative cover so watch out for those and deal with them as you put it together. The foxproof latches looked a bit rattly and insecure to me and I felt better once I had put a spacer behind the doors so they shut more tightly. I may still replace with something else.
