universal Firewire-USB adapters do not exist
This product simply didn't work for me: My computer disabled the USB bus when it was plugged in because of excessive power draw. I'm sure there must be some applications for which this device works, but there simply is no universal Firewire-to-USB converter. Firewire requires a 30V pin (vs. 6V for the USB power lead), and while it is technically possible to do 6V to 30V DC conversion, it is not possible to create more power than the USB bus provides. Because the options are so limited, if you need to connect a legacy Firewire device via USB, it's worth giving this adapter a try -- because it's relatively cheap --but don't expect miracles.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Do your research before buying, Firewire can not be converted into USB...It is worthless.
I needed to connect an older device which uses fire wire to my laptop which does not have fire wire, I thought this would work....it does not and can not. Lucky it was only a few dollars.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Didn't work for me.
Every time I plugged in my fire wire camera I got a USB short detect. I don't know if it was the 4 pin to 6 pin adaptor cable that I plugged in to it or the adaptor itself. I resolved it by buying a Fire wire card. So not the camera.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Doesn't work though
My mac would not let me use this adapter, instead I have to but buy two other adapter, from Apple. Cost me 80 bucks. It was worth a shot though with this one , for the price. I guess FireWire is somewhat powered and my new mac book pro wouldn't except it. It did work when I went from USB 3 to Thunder bold then thunderbolt to FireWire. THIS WILL BLOW YOUR COMPUTERS CIRCUIT BOARD.
I can't believe that this ever made it to production because, by default this is defective. Way too much power to run through an adaptor and its very very likely to blow your circuit board.
