Good feature set, fast Wi-Fi speeds.

It was definitely an improvement over my older router, which frequently dropped signal with any Apple products in the house. It is quite large and doesn't have a stand to reduce the footprint on the desk, but has a pretty cool look to it. My particular model does make a humming noise when transferring heavy traffic on Wi-Fi, but I'm not the only one. Having used Netgear before, I was familiar with the feature set of the online interface and it isn't very difficult to protect your network, turn on MAC filtering, and other settings. I do wish it was compatible with various VPN providers so that I could enable it for all connected devices. Overall, does what it needs to and doesn't cost an arm.

  • Most critical review

Router okay, but firmware not updated

The router is okay and easy to install. The biggest disappointment is that I cannot upload files over the internet to the USB-drive that is connected to the router. It is due to a bug in the firmware, which exists already over a year. It seems Netgear doesn't give priority to fix it and make a new firmware. If I would be aware of this issue I would have bought a different router.

  • Great router supporting WAP for those shifting from cableTV to streamer devices like ROKU

This is a powerful router and a great value. It supports Wireless->Ethernet Bridge aka 'wireless Access Point'. This is a critical feature for those who are cutting out cable tv and shifting to over-the-top streaming devices like ROKU. For max performance, you want your streaming terminals connected by ethernet and not wirelesss. But in order to use smartphone apps like Chrome-cast and the Roku remote-control app, both phone & roku must be on the same subnet. Same for printing from your phone - the printer also has to be on the same subnet. This is a pnp limitation. The solution is to bridge your wireless router (that your phones must use) to your wired ethernet router via the AP mode. This means that your wireless devices are transparrently bridged to the ethrenet router so all DHCP addresses are from the same subnet. The R7000 supports this mode as well as being a powerful and outstanding radio.

  • Extremely easy to set up

About 2 minutes from start to finish to set this router up. I didn't need their Genie program with my Mac. Just found the router name in the Network preference application and entered the provided password. Instantly connected. I had had some issues with my Apple router. Wjhile it was still showing as connected, it wouldn't surf the net. The NetGear has corrected that problem. My only issue with NetGear was with a different model I purchased for home and couldn't get it set up. Had to call their technical support department. After several hours of attempting to work with someone whose accent made it almost impossible for me to understand, they finally replaced that unit. NetGear, get your technical support back to the USA where it belongs. That one issue would make me think twice about dealing with NetGear again.

  • Fast but some drawbacks

The fastest wired ports of most routers in any price range, but it would be great to have 8 ports instead of 4 - as I could really care less about wi-fi performance. Setting up open ports was a bit of a challenge - finally got them to work after pulling AC power from the router to reboot it, as soft reboots did not take. USB 3.0 port on the front is not easy to get to. Network attached storage seems to have lots of issues when attempting to do a simple file transfer between PC's within the local network....shouldn't be so difficult, as I have still not seen files within folders make the transistion successfully. Overall good product, but still seems to have some issues.

  • Works and seems reliable, wifi good enough for four concurrent Netflix streams

I have a 150 Mbps download connection speed from my internet service provider, and with this device I can get all 150 Mbps in connection speed tests over wireless. My kids can also use two Kindle Fire tablets and two phones to watch Netflix or Netflix and Youtube all at the same time in most of my house without any problems. I don't have to restart the router at all, either. This is my second one of this model, and the first one has been in service for two years so far with no problems. I bought a second one and installed it inside a room with stone walls, the stone walls make the wireless signal from the first box too weak. On the downside, the box rates maximum possible 802.11n speeds of 600 Mpbs, maximum 802.11ac connection speeds of 1300 Mbps, and wired connection speeds of 1 Gbps (1000 Mbps). When I move files between computers over the wired connections, I consistently get near the 1 Gbps in data throughput. From wired to wireless, or wireless to wired, I can't break 200 Mbps on a single connection over 802.11n or 400 Mbps on a single connection over 802.11ac even with the wireless device one foot from the router. That's plenty for gaming or streaming video, but I paid for 600 / 1300 and I'm irritated that I don't get it.

  • Fast & Furious

The good: The router is about as plug and play as you can get. I plugged it in and it was up and running in no time. However, I prefer some customized settings and the router accommodates those as well. Its a solid performer, I've had upwards of a dozen wireless clients running at the same time, it handles that with ease. It also has good range, it is set up in a corner of my 2100 sq ft house. Working through up to 4 walls (wood & drywall) with no problems (loses one bar (iPhone 6) on 5GHZ when I'm in the opposite corner of the house, no bars lost on 2.5GHZ. The bad: Its a bit shy on documentation, but I was able to find everything I needed online.

  • Great Router, but PRICEY!

I've never spent this kind of money on a router in my entire life. I've always bought $20-$50 routers, refurbs, open box, returns, etc etc. I'm pretty tech savvy, and have always managed to make do, but I've just never had a really great router that gave me great range, easy setup, etc etc. I read the reviews for this unit on Amazon (this unit is highly rated, and has LOTS of reviews). I was swayed by what I read, and decided that maybe it was time to crack open the piggy bank and invest in a high-end router. Well all I can say is that all of the positive reviews are right, this is a great router. My only gripe is the price... I know in 2 or 3 years this will be a $20 router, and the latest tech will be $150... I guess that's just the way it goes. Still, I'm glad I got this as it covers my whole house, and can provide multiple simultaneous video streams to our tablets without a hiccup.

  • Smokes my old Netgear N600

I moved into a new house a couple years ago, and brought along my old N600 wireless router. But with the brick construction and layout of my house, I had some serious holes in my wifi coverage. Unfortunately, one of them was where my TV, PS3, PS4, and Apple TV live. I was getting 3-4Mbps on a good day to those devices, and that doesn't cut it with all the online gaming and streaming video I do. So I began researching good wireless routers for strong signals at a distance, and the AC1900 came up in several reviews. It's not the latest generation of alien-looking contraptions, but it was highly rated for strength at distance. After installing it, I was seeing improvement immediately. And then a little tweaking of the position and antenna angles got me what I was looking for. 100Mbps to my entertainment devices, which live 1 floor down and about 50 feet away, with a huge beam running between points A and B. Amazing!

  • Finally 200+ Mbps

I had a linksys wrt 1900 AC (v1) for 2 years that I fought with constantly trying to get fast speeds or even keep the speed up above ~2 Mbps even with dd wrt. This new netgear is a DREAM compared to it. Super easy setup, pretty good range, and I got the full 200+ speed I pay for wirelessly for the first time ever!!! Goodbye linksys, netgear from now on
