The rasp features fine teeth on one side and coarse on the opposite making this in essence two tools for the price of one, it is also impossible to clog as the waste material simply falls through the lattice as you work.

Been after a Shinto rasp ever since I read about them. Everyone says how good they are & I decided I just had to get me one. I’ve recently built myself a working platform/work bench using 18mm MDF board and 2 lengths of CLS timber. I needed to to notch out 2 notches on each length of timber to allow them to sit firmly on the two Stanley saw horses I have. This is where the Shinto rasp came into its own. I could take off millimetres much easier & quicker using the rasp & the timber was notched perfectly. Now I can stand on my platform & cut my hedges much more safely than I could using steps. I’ve also used it to round off edges on shelves I’ve put up & the possibilities are endless. I can’t recommend this Shinto rasp highly enough, in fact I’m looking for other projects to use it on. Very pleased I bought it 😁

  • A major advance in woodworking tools.

The best tool I have purchased for many years. It is easy to use and removes material very quickly and does not tear or splinter even very thin wood. Recommended.

  • A must-have tool for all woodworkers!

I decided to make an electric guitar from scratch, as I had some mahogany off-cuts that would make a nice body. I bought another piece to make the neck, and ordered the hardware I would need. I've made guitars before, but always bought ready-made necks, as they are the hardest to make. I looked for construction tips on YouTube, where I found several videos of luthiers using expensive professional woodworking machines. I, however, would be using basic woodworking tools. One exception I bought was a small electric router which was essential for accurate channel and cavity cutting. One thing I did notice on the videos was that almost every luthier was using a Shinto saw rasp, which they highly recommended. So I ordered one, and when it arrived I was impressed by the design and build quality. It looks like lots of saw blades fixed together with a comfortable wooden handle. It has two grades of cut; coarse on one side, fine on the other. I've have never used a tool that can accurately shape wood as quickly as the Shinto. I carved the neck and the body of the guitar, as it copes with curves easily, and shows no sign of losing sharpness. I can imagine it doing all kinds of woodwork. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

  • A Carpenter's Friend

I can't believe I've not had one of these rasps before. A friend had one and bought it to a musical instrument making group we have in our village - it was just so useful I had to get one! There are a lot of times when you need to take off some wood from a job that's too much for sanding but too awkward to saw, or delicate shaping is needed. Well this rasp removes material evenly and at an unbelievable speed, but with control. If you have any carpentry to do, then it's definitely worth buying one of these for your tool bag - it will save hours of work and frustration in the long run!

  • Shinto Saw Rasp.

Fantastic rasp for woodwork. Stumbled across a You Tube video of a carpenter using a Shinto Saw Rasp. Amazing for trimming. Each side has a different gauge of saw teeth on it. Rough and smooth oddly enough. I'm finding that along with the Japanese razor saws I've got, this is a great addition to the tool kit

  • Simple but brilliantly designed tool.

Quite simply one of the best hand tools I've ever bought. The coarse side removes wood fast and the fine side leaves a nice smooth finish. Much more efficient than a Surform. So good I've bought another in case something bad happens to the first one - which is now 6 or 7 years old and as sharp as the day I bought it.

  • Good Woodworking tool

Purchased this product after recommendation from a friend. After years of using Rasps and other devices the two different graded sides of this tool work wonderfully well and are as sharp as a razor. I wish I’d known about this sooner. Any hobby Woodworker should have one of these in his tool rack

  • Well worth the money!

As an intermediate woodworker, I followed the advice of master craftsman Paul Sellers and purchased the Shinto Saw Rasp. Having used a couple of cheaper rasps felt that this removed stock quite quickly but much easier to control both on fine and coarse sides without clogging. One still needs a file and/or sandpaper to do the final smoothing of course but this will get the work to a good place in good time.
