Excellent product – Difficult to cut

The material is of excellent quality. It is, however, very difficult to cut. Best research advice on the internet about making templates in MDF and sandwiching the material in-between before drilling and cutting. This is the technique I used for the holes, but I then used a bandsaw to cut the outer shape, which worked well for me.

  • Most critical review

Very difficult to cut and shape

I found the product very difficult to cut and shape to the exact size and pattern needed to fit my exhaust. I used a combination of tin snips, craft knife, drill and multi tool cutter to form the gasket I needed but it took me several hours to do it. There were no instructions or advice on how to cut or use the product included with the pack and the supplier never answered their phone any time I called to ask for technical advice. Time will tell if the gasket actually forms a long term seal.

  • Making your own exhaust gasket

This material proved ideal for manufacturing a replacement exhaust gasket for a 30 cc 2 stroke petrol engine. All you need are a few hand tools and you can make up any shape of gasket that you need.

  • Great for odd or custom exhaust flange gaskets

I needed this product to make an unobtainable silencer flange gasket. It's a generous size and appears good quality. The only problem when using is how to cut and shape it without delamination. I had time to spare and the tools and materials to mount a 6 inch square piece between two pieces of flat mdf in my lathe to bore the 63mm centre hole. Smaller holes can be drilled conventionally through the wood and gasket sandwich. Outer edges can be cut by hacksaw or grinder. Tin snips tend to bend the gasket.

  • Perfect result!

Needed for intermediate flange gasket on exhaust pipe. A challenge to cut a nice round hole but perfect performance once fitted.

  • served its purpose

This product served its purpose to do an exhaust manifold gasket. This product is not really compressible. It also difficult to cut - we used tin snips & drills & then a small grinding tool to take out the burrs.

  • Tough exhaust manifold material but hard to work with.

I am sure it will work well but it is particularly hard material to cut to shape. I would not recommend it for complicated gasket shapes therefore.
