Carryover function allows you to select whether to leave reverberation when the effect is turned off. Reproduction of the original Spring Reverb, with a choice of five different types, including Hall, Plate, Room and Ambience.
I've had quite a few emulations of the Space Echo pass through my hands, including several prior Roland / Boss versions, and I've been lucky enough to play the original, although I've never owned one. I think Boss has got closest yet with this version. Other than where they have deliberately pushed the edges of the envelope (4th head option, effects options, longer delay time) this behaves like a space echo and being able to dial in the degree of saturation and wow and flutter is a very nice touch. It also looks amazing, and the retro CE-1-style casing is just a really nice piece of material - it feels great in the hands and has just the right degree of weight to it. It even comes with a PSU in case you need one. Nothing not to like here - sure it's a bit expensive, but so are the alternatives, and Boss has nailed this one. That makes it good value in my book. I won't be getting the 201 pocket pedal version, but that's pretty intriguing too!
I found this pedal to have a very synthetic sound overall with an annoying choral effect that could not be dialed out at at all. It's a large pedal for what it offers too. Sure, it has some nice features like presets, different reverbs etc.. but I found all of that very counter intuitive. The reverb algorithms are of poor quality to be honest. Also, the 'twist' function is very gimmicky in my opinion and isn't very musical sounding. Finally, the oscillation mode is way too loud and completely uncontrollable. Trust me, buy a Catalinbread Belle Epoch Deluxe instead. A far superior tape echo emulation pedal in every way.
