Reviews"One of the most compelling and original works in a 50-plus-year career loaded with such transcendent moments.", "Like nearly all his records, this one is a fully immersive experience; trips to Bowie-land – a place where every encounter is a metaphysical hall of mirrors, all the hours are after hours, and the cult of personality has its own G-force – don’t really come any other way." -- Grade: A-, 4 stars out of 5 -- "One of the most aggressively experimental records the singer has ever made....BLACKSTAR is a ricochet of textural eccentricity and pictorial-shrapnel writing.", "BLACKSTAR becomes whole with its two-song denouement, which balances out the bruises and blood with a couple of salty tears. These are essentially classic David Bowie ballads...", "Blackstar May Well Be His Final Gift to Us Mere Mortals, but It's an Incredible Final Chapter.", "Art-damaged ballads on which several excellent musicians flesh out tricky time signatures and unexpected chord progressions....BLACKSTAR finds Bowie and longtime producer Tony Visconti as hungry as they ever were...", "BLACKSTAR is unmistakably a band record, showcasing a talented group of musicians who are comfortable navigating the songs' harmonically twisty byways....They give the record a distinctively eerie, muscular stamp.", "BLACKSTAR spins the spaceship back around and points it at the moon. Bowie’s formidable record of reinventing himself with each new album remains intact.", "He Never Sounds Less than Marvelous....Blackstar's Theatrical Bent Is What Is Most Striking."

BOWIE IS BACK TO HIS BEST!

After the last 2 fairly incipid albums, Bowie got it perfectly right his time around. His fascination with space has been evident throughout his many albums, and much of these new lyrics are centred around space/afterlife etc. No change there, however, it is in the delivery that he outclasses his last 2 albums. ie some of the songs on this album are simply superb The opening song (Blackstar), which is the name of the album, has 3 different changes in tempo- at first I thought it was a new song half way through but it was just typical and brill Bowie doing what he does best. A couple of songs I am still not too sure about but these are massively overtaken by other powerful and sometimes amusing songs (eg "I didn't know she was a whore") Overall it was a testament and fantastic end to his career-- what a way to sign off!!......but knowing Bowie, he may still have something to emerge from his locker of songs....ie is it the last album he ever wrote? Or will there be a post-death release of new material -maybe he will find Major Tom up there after all! Well done Mr Bowie

    Bowie difficult

I actually brought it for my wife as we were moved by final Bowie documentary. But to be honest I didnt actually enjoy it that much and found it ok but difficult music,(wife likes it though) and it seemed better when also watching a video of him while listening... Hunky Dory was always my fave album. He was a brilliant devout artist but his star had definitly turned black. RIP (Rock In Paradise) David.

  • Bowie's final farewell

We have watched over the decades how David Bowie morphed from one persona to another, breaking new ground with fantastic songs and styles. Blackstar as an album astonishes, and defies the fact this man was desperately ill ,and at 68 years old, he still blew me away. Jazzy, rocky, and always on the money, it is a superbly crafted, almost a sad goodbye from the genius we all loved. I was hypnotised by the lead track, a powerful and beautiful tour de force. For me, without doubt, the album of the year, or even decade, yes i rate it that highly. God bless the man, he went out on an absolute high....Five star for the Blackstar.

  • Still showing us how it's done

Great album from a legend, Bowie was always a chameleon and he has not lost it with this album. Modern sound that fits in with today's world but could still have been made years ago.

  • Bowies Blackstar Release 2016

Thought it typical Bowie after listening to it and not liking it much at first! Got to say it's grown on me now, and i think of it as a masterpiece. Many hidden meanings within some of the 7 tracks and a worthy album for my collection. T7.
